That isn't the case for existing devices:

"Though users of new Windows 10 devices requiring legacy app compatibility may be forced to an 8-inch or larger device, current 7-inch slates won't be required to make that change if you're looking to upgrade an existing tablet to Windows 10.

"Folks asking about updating 7" *existing* devices to Win10 -- you keep your desktop, you get continuum. Go try it yourself now," Belfiore wrote on Twitter."

Are you sure ? on The Verge it looked like the 8" tablets they had also had 'desktop' version.

This is under 8" though but as mentioned above it's new tabs under 8" that won't get full W10......existing ones will get legacy.....however apps may not be optimised for smaller displays

Really is idiotic how these branded tabs around this price mark do not include a micro hdmi port.

I know

I have it (which I'm not selling), along with a Linx 8, which I really like.

Ideally though I wouldn't have minded something by a well known brand and a little more expensive for the better battery life, but it seems they all come with no HDMI out port unless I spend silly money.

I'll just be patient and wait longer

I am tempted, but I need HDMI, and I would rather get the 10" version.

my linx 10 has fantastic battery life ! Such a good tablet for the price.

Similarly , I went for the 8" Linx tablet (not arrived yet)for the hdmi. overall the linx seems a better deal. on top of that you can get £30 cash back on Linx. Ive got an old 7" tablet from a few years ( not worth much) which I will be sending back to test the cash back. That means the Linx will only cost me £60.
Has anyone tried the cash back for Linxs ?

I'm willing to bet the Windows Desktop on <8" devices is a simple registry hack TBH. It's the same Windows at the end of the day - there's just something in the software that says "for devices smaller than 8", disable the desktop".

I got my cash back a few weeks ago, I bought my linx 8 at beginning of Dec.
However claims are running a bit behind now due to the staples half price offer in Dec.
I have linx 8 and 10 both very good value and would recommend highly.

+1 for the Linx (have the 7"). Quality tablet for the price. I've even played Doom 3 on it :-)

Older / slower processor compared to the Lenovo (Baytrail Atom - higher performance & lower power consumption)

The Moderator removed my post which wanted to compare this deal with a Acer Iconia W3-810 Tablet (32GB, WiFi, 3G via Dongle), Silver available for £84 overseas at Amazon.in. Is this Normal? or are the moderators overstepping their boundaries..? Still Heat from me.

Received two lots this week from them. 1st was from end of November for a 10" and the other for an 8" just before xmas. Keep emailing tablettradeup.com if nothing appears to be happening with tour claim.

They do pay out.

No wonder amazon don't say the screen res as its only 768 x 1024 which is a massive let down as the other specs are promising

The Linx 8 and, especially the 7, do not though. I didn't want a tablet as big as the Linx 10, and I also wanted a tablet that uses a standard micro USB to charge. I'd edge towards a HP Pavillion x2 10.1 if I wanted a bigger tablet though.

Either way I can't complain at the price the Linx tablets were at with that staples deal. I just wish some of these 7-8 inch tablets with better battery life included a HDMI port.

You can get a similar-spec 8" tab from banggood for around £75 - even one that is dual-boot Android/Windows. Sadly can't post banggood deals on here for some reason. You should check out there if you are interested. I got a Voyo A1 mini from there last year for about £95, which was brilliant at the time. Delivery is quick too.

Have the Miix 2 8 inch already and seriously considered getting this one since screen ratio is much better (4:3) However checking the specs lenovo seem to under-graded it: has lower screen res, back camera reduced from 5MP to 2MP but most importantly battery capacity was reduced as well, miix 2 rated 7 hours while this is only 5 hours...

Oh really?

This kinda sucks then! I'd go for the Linx 8 instead, as the extra gb ram doesn't really make too much difference.

Depends on how you use it. Windows 8.1 manages RAM pretty good but I also use RAMRush which is a (free) small piece of software that optimizes RAM very well!
However I chose the Miix 2 8 Because of the 2gb Ram feature..

Although it may not be a known brand name, have a look at the Onda v975w.
i got it so i can safely say its a very good tablet but it has 8000mah battery (maybe 8200mah, one of the other) and has HDMI out.
was about £170 when i got but seen it around the £150 mark on Amazon

it has a 9.7Inch retina display as well

I do understand but I believe the main limitation is the size. Larger tablet same hardware (slightly larger screen) still means a larger battery can be packed in. So you will be hard pushed to find a tablet of that size running windows which will have a good battery life.

That's true

But others such as the Lenovo Encore 8" seem to be quoted 6-8 hours use. I just find the Linx 7, in particular, to drain pretty fast. Not a massive issue as I can just use a portable USB charger, but it's just a stop gap tablet for me until I get something all.

All in all though I'd defo recommend the Linx 8 over this.

Nice. Will take a look.

I'd be tempted to go for the Pavillion x2 10.1 though if I get near the 200 quid range.

Ive got linx 8 and linx 10 , battery better on the 10 , screen better on the 8, no real difference in performance, memory not an issue at all on the 8.

Cheers for the tip on this. It may be older, but 2GB RAM, 64GB space, 1366 x 768 resolution, "world's thinnest Windows 8 tablet" on release, and the S pen just makes it a great deal for me at this price.

Samsung is selling it at £199 at their store with "limited stock left".

Just a heads up. I had a Latitude 10 with the same specs as that Samsung. It may sound good on paper, but that older generation Atom is significantly slower than the current gen.

So don't be duped into buying that tablet. It may sound good on paper - but it'll disappoint you. Just get an Asus T100 for an extra tenner from Scan. It does only have 32GB of storage - however, with a wimboot installation, you will still have about 20GB's of free space after Windows is installed. You also get a proper keyboard dock, which has a full size USB port built in (very handy).

Spot on,wenttoabetterplace, the Samsung Z2760 has the same processing power as the MEDION AKOYA E1317T Touch Laptop that was also popular at £150 from Asda on this forum which included MS Home Office 2013, at a Passmark of 650. User experience was that, after the full update to Windows 8.1 Update 1, the machine was perfectly usable for MS Office word processing, simple surfing with up to about 30 tabs open, mail, 2D movies , songs, social networking..so it is perfectly OK for basic daily use as it has solid state disk in contrast to the E1317T which has a slow hard disk. The Z3740 quad core (such as T100) with nearly twice the power is advisable for a smoother experience if you want much faster browsing experience with 50+ tabs opened, plus some serious gaming experience. But with an S-pen and Office , this tablet, I stress again is powerful enough, is positioned for office and the thinker and socialite rather than game addicts and surfing jockeys.

I use STEAM on mine and Origin for Theme Hospital & Sim City 2000 on my Linx10. Though, from my experience, most require a keyboard & mouse - I got this case from Alibaba for ~£18, aliexpress.com/ite…Fiu and it works well as it has the mouse pad built in (though you have to do a quick fiddle with the magnets that hold the tablet down as they're the wrong way around to start)
