Turns out the Moto Z and Moto Z Play are not the same phone, very confusing:
the Z is more premium, hence more expensive
(better screen + camera + processor, more RAM)

HOT! Good price, is £499 in other stores

32G is not good enough

The Z (not z play) was 299 in John lewis a couple of weeks ago, and a LG G5 is the same price but with a free mod on ebuyer - may account for the coldness. Its a decent price but personally I'm holding out for better.

It does have a card slot, though personally I'm holding out for manufacturers stopping with the card slots and just giving us a massive pile of internal storage - 128GB-256GB. This is much more useful than a card slot in my opinion - faster, more stable, more secure and reliable.

In the meanwhile though a card slot and 32GB seems the default for manufacturers.

Whatever the price was as part of a promotion, lets face it, this phone is not going to touch 300 anytime soon. Its a flagship phone and still supported with loads of mods and more coming in 2017. Everywhere it sells for more than £450 at least or at best £400 in the eBay market.

This price is just excellent for a flagship with super fast performance and android performance better than the Galaxy S7 edge And don't forget you get the Amazon peace of mind as well with this, not other cheapo and worse online retailers

So, HOT from me. Thanks OP.

That's why it has a SD Card slot. I would rather have a 32GB onboard and unlimited expandable memory so i can add a 128GB if i want to or just leave a 32GB card in with the onboard. Gives the flexibility and keeps costs low for us as well

This or Oneplus 3T? Starting to wonder if I should have grabbed this for 299 the other week at JL

Opposite for me. I want lots of internal storage as I've had multiple cards fail - I hammer them and SD cards are not as reliable for continuous use as EMMC. I wish I could have got an S7 Edge in a 128GB model as you could with the S6 Edge.

Well, for starters 3T is more expensive than this and The Moto Z comes from a reliable manufacturer with a near stock android feel and updates and Amazon warranty for peace of mind. So I would say this one for sure

Honestly, I have used Sandisk and Samsung cards in all my devices since the last 8 years and never had one fail on me still. The device gets rusty but the card still works great. But i understand if you have had problems.
In that case, for you it makes more sense to got for more internal storage, but you will end up paying a lot more even for small increases in storage.

This will be the sweet spot for many users who prefer expandable storage for a cheaper price.

I don't mind paying a lot. To be honest I'd rather pay more for an Android if I got guaranteed fast updates, good customer service and the promise that they would only release one device a year - or maybe two sizes of the one device.

My problem with SD cards is also that some apps don't support using them for caching content - e.g. BBC iPlayer. So to do that I have to either buy an Android device with loads of internal storage or use adoptive storage, which not only slows the device down but also increases the risk of the card failing. It's not even an option on most high end phones anyway.

SD cards are also insecure, since if you lose your phone then even if people can't access the device itself they can pull the SD card and have access to potentially sensitive personal data. This is not a concern with integrated storage.

Everyone has their preference though. It's a shame Samsung only offer the 32GB SKU now though, as even if 128GB was expensive I'd still consider buying it.

Yes. £349. And so is this. Hence "the same price". And it had the lacklustre Camera mod bundled. Had this deal bundled the Z with, say, the external battery mod at this price I'd have bitten your hand off and nibbled your wrist.

It's a gorgeous looking phone though... and 50 quid for the Amazon peace of mind.... NO! Must hold the line!

Anything made by oneplus has my vote.
been using their phones for years without any bother.

Although the I hear the oneplus 4 is due to release this quarter.......

so tempting, strangely the Moto website still got those 2 codes which are supposed to give you £60 off and a very JBL mod but try implementing codes and it doesn't work with the mod in the basket. But then again my LG G4 works ok even though it had the root boot problem which was fixed under warranty. Want - yes, Need - no, desire - sort of . Bank balance, less said the better

If you don't want to buy any of the mods then get the 3T. Without the mods, the Z's battery life isn't going to be great and it lacks luxuries like a headphone jack. It has near stock Android but so does the 3T.

At the end of the day, your not going to go too far wrong with either.

Taken the plunge with the Moto Z. It's a good £70 cheaper than the Oneplus 3T 64GB via O2, but I think I'd have to take the 128GB version if I went for the 3T (since no microSD) which is £100 or so more expensive than this.

Moto Z has better screen, and is thinner, but at the expense of battery life and no headphone socket. As long as the battery life isn't *that* bad, I'm OK with the compromises. I'm not a heavy user and it's rare I'm away from a power source for long (home, work, car etc.)

I picked up a Z for £299 from JL.. So far after my first full week I've been getting 30% battery left after 12 hours of moderate use with WiFi, bluetooth, location services & android wear connected. So I'm happy :-)

That's reassuring about the battery life. So much has been said about from a spec perspective but not found much from real users

Here is the proof, I did turn the phone off for 15 minutes this afternoon to fit a screen protector hence the slight gap in the graph..

How is this not a hot deal? Yeah, sure, John Lewis had it cheaper couple of weeks ago but that doesn't mean you can find it cheaper anywhere else right now. Thanks OP! Bought it now!

19 mins to go.... Caved... ;-)

For anyone who grabbed the deal, I can recommend a Brotect "air glass" screen protector the normal 0.3mm glass protectors leave a horrible white line around the edges where the phone screen is slightly curved and they don't stick.. The Brotect is much thinner and covers more of the screen without a white line! Also a Nillkin Nature TPU case fits very well and is only 0.6mm thick if you want to make the most of your ultra thin moto Z

Just received mine now and opened it up. First impressions are positive, it looks and feels far better than I'd imagined from images and videos on the Web! Gonna look into those suggestions in the previous post for screen protector and case. Thanks for sharing.
