Motorola is owned by Lenovo after they purchased the manufacturer from Google.

Lenovo is phasing out the Motorola name, so all future handsets will be branded as Lenovo Moto.

Yes this confused me too!, and I did wonder also?.

So I came on here to query the same funny thing?, lol, but ironically I was beaten to the punch!, hehehe, no big. :-)

It's ironic too though, Motorola started this whole Mobile Phone Revolution back in 1975 in America!, shortly after their then (and yet still) popular Walkie-Talkie's and the like?.

But yet .....

Similar in-part to the also then popular Nokia Phones from back in the day?, it's all Microsoft Phones now (that never existed 5 years ago either ..... )

Life, huh?.

Are these handsets unlocked for use on tesco mobile?

Yes, all handsets apart from iPhones sold by CPW are unlocked for use on any UK network. It doesn't matter which network the handset is purchased on, CPW simply bundle a SIM Free (unlocked) phone with a SIM card pack.

This is a Motorola Moto G4 Play, yes Motorola are owned by Lenovo but for now these phones are still marketed under Motorola. Maybe next year it will be a Lenovo Moto G but right now this title is just confusing to those not 'in' to mobile technology.

Heat though

It's marketed as Motorola by uk retailers, but there is no mention of Motorola on the front of the box on any of the G4 range. There is a Lenovo logo on the front though.

Don't blame me for Lenovo confusing things.

Good price for this handset... 1gb ram is a shame but for £80 perhaps thats ok

heat from me

Anyone know if this phone can handle Pokémon app?

Good deal. Next best price is Argos at £110.

Can anyone who has actually gone for this deal from CPW please confirm that is actually unlocked. I know they used to be unlocked but I posted a deal for a PAYG Samsung J5 phone sometime back from CPW and one person said the phone he got was locked.

Tried to confirm this with CPW customer helpdesk but the advisor simple made up a load of crap to cover up for the fact she did not know.

I then called my local CPW store who first thought I was winding them up when I said " Moto G4 Play" - can't think why. They said as far as they were aware the phone should be unlocked. A locked phone on O2 is a year wait and a £15 unlock charge

All phones from CPW are unlocked apart from iPhones, which lock to the first network of the first used SIM, or carrier branded phones (e.g. Orange San Francisco, Vodafone Smart...etc).

There is no way that the Samsung J5 was locked to a network if it came from CPW, as CPW only buy SIM Free stock, which they pair with a SIM when a customer order is created.

It will definitely be unlocked, but Moto's are incredibly easy to unlock via a £1-£2 unlock code from ebay.

Assume Vodafone & O2 subsidise their deals some how given EE is dearer?

Can confirm these are unlocked.

Clearly lots of people are buying and simply binning the SIM. I've already got a taker for the Vodafone one

Up to £159 now, 95p cheaper than Argos but then if you have ££ on your Nectar card...

Got one today and it is unlocked. Speaker volume at max setting for videos is a bit low unless my phone is faulty.

Re the Moto G4 discovered CPW are doing them for £129.99 on an existing O2 or Vodaphone PAYG

heat added - thanks - upfront cost £94.99 inc £10 top up.
I used quidco hopefully that will bring it down by £5
FYI the spec reads NFC
Only bad point delivery is not until 2+ weeks

Before yes, but not anymore ...

Only their Pay & Go Upgrades are the ones Unlocked now, their straight Pay & Go only Phones are all Locked to whatever Network you then choose to buy it with etc?.

You have been warned .....

That's complete rubbish, their stock of handsets is the same for all of the channels, they just pair them with a separate SIM.

iPhones and Network Branded handsets are the exception. iPhones lock to the network of the 1st SIM inserted into the device, network branded phones (e.g. Vodafone Smart Prime 7) are pre-locked.

Where are you getting your information from?
