This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:

I’ve been trying hard to find a decent sub 500 laptop that has a decent processor, a nice ips screen and enough ram.

This is a 4 core 8 thread ryzen laptop with 8gb of dual channel ram and a decent IPS screen.

To get this hover around the website and register as a new customer to get a 10% off code. In addition, one member has managed to get a further £28 cashback tracked on Quidco, bringing the potential total cost to just £404.

The S540 is a midrange laptop with nice build quality and full aluminium chassis. It’s also got some nice extras like backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader that you wouldn’t get normally at this price point.

Which ones better and why

both have similar specs.

The Acer has 2133mhz ram but this has 2667mhz ram. For an AMD the ram speed does make a difference.

The IPS panel have slight differences:
the Acer has a slightly less bright one at 280 nits, whilst the lenovo is 300 nits.
sRGB and other things are quite similar - in fact both of these IPS panels are manufactured by the same maker (Chimai)

The rest comes down to aesthetic and build quality. The Acer 3 is a low end machine but still decent quality. The S540 is a midrange one and has a nice metal body. I personally prefer the look of the lenovo but thats completely subjective. Lenovo laptops also tend to have a better typing experience (they own IBM technology) although this is not going to be as good as say, a Carbon X1.

This also has a fingerprint reader which would be windows hello compatible.

Both good prices to be honest. I'm obviously a little biased as this is my post but given that the S540 is slightly cheaper, I'd go for this.

This is literally the complete opposite of my entire experience with Lenovo laptops both at work and home.
If anyone wants the Gold version.
In my opinion, it has a nicer colour and looks more premium with 2 year warranty from John Lewis for £479.99, reduced from £599.

Looks a good deal, heat.
TCB 3%, but probably won't go through with the 10% code, but it won't hurt to try.

Good all round spec, heat added. Useful OP too.

Lenovo seems better, it has better speaker placement and fingerprint reader
To be honest I was looking at this laptop back on black friday and it was i5 version with 512gb for £749in Curry's. Only real difference between those 2 would be storage and huge price gap. Definitely worth it in this option you posted. I also consider HP Pavilion 14" i5 512gb and Intel optane for £499 in Curry's and also a Acer Swift 3 which is at about £450 in Curry's. Can not decide which one to go for, or to wait until January or to wait and buy something convertible like HP envy or lenovo c320. What do you guys think?

I was thinking about waiting a week or two for January sales but this is a good deal for the specs and ips I’ll probably wait though

I have read, the display on the Intel version of the S540 is slightly better and it's a different panel than the AMD version. It's still good but it's 250 nits not 300 nits. Made by LG.
The Swift 3 is not low-end really but I would also rate the S540 higher even the trackpad is made of glass on this.

Yes, it is in S mode. You can easily switch out of that. Here you go.

S Mode is easily bypassed for a regular W10 install.

There were some decent reductions on extended warranty on the Lenovo site.
£117 more than the best price there has been for identical internals but TN screen - a lot extra to pay for IPS?

This ASUS laptop is 15 inch.
Some differences:
it’s a TN panel
SSD is sata not PCIe
No fingerprint or backlit keyboard
Plastic construct

Overall i would say it’s not as good, but it is 100g lighter.

There's 100Mhz in it and small die shrink, I don't think 'significantly slower' is correct here. Both good quad-core chips with Vega 8 graphics.

Hp one is very good too, similar core specs. It’s out of stock though at AO so may not be a viable option. It’s a lot more expensive in other websites.

Both good priced laptops.

The hp one is cheaper but doesn’t have the additional stuff like fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard and is not a solid aluminium chassis like this one. It’s got a black plastic and on the trackpad catches grease very easily.

At the end of the day they will both perform similarly but the Lenovo definitely is more premium. Is that worth £33 difference? That’s completely up to you.

On gaming performance 2500u vs 3500u the newer chip is about 10% faster. On raw cpu it looks like 7%
Been following the laptop deals for a while and since blackffiday I havnt spotted anything that jumps out. Looking at this kinda spec and price point but 15". Are there others on lenova web site worth considering? Muchos
If you're deliberating whether to get this or the Acer mentioned earlier.
Acer = the equivalent of a Tandy computer.
Still works but made with cost as the central design brief. No design flair.

I’ve got an old i7 ASUS N53sv. Nothing wrong with it in terms of performance. The only two issues are weight (portability) and battery life.

Would this be a significant improvement?

Just need to upgrade it to 8GB RAM. Ryzen performs significantly better with more RAM.
