Apart from YouTube, any other advantages? Got a couple still in box but my house is full with Alexa and do not know if I should exchange this for the Show 8. Thanks!

I went the other way - started with Alexa everywhere, ditched her for Google. I know Alexa has recently added the ability to recognise individuals, but Google has been doing that for ages. Being able to ask for my calendar and having that just come up with my appointments is so convenient. Sending directions to Google maps on your phone is another neat trick I use this for a lot - ask for directions as I head out, and by the time I clip my phone into the car holder, it's ready to go.

Got it similar price last year. Pretty versatile tho I've noticed it mishears me quite a bit (British English issue?) plus I can't cast Netflix.

I was the same, started with Alexa but am now Google across the house. In addition to the points about I also really like the Google Photos integration.

I have got one of these in the kitchen and I am pleased with it, the slightly bigger screen makes a difference and the sound is loads better.
I have one of these and it's great, BUT the portrait mode is misleading - it only works in this orientation using the google DUO app.

You can't stream Netflix on smart displays yet.
Bought three of them when they were on offer from AO for about £47 each. Very happy with them. Only problem i have had is sometimes when we are watching the TV she suddenly says i can not help with that. Can watch our Tapo security cameras with them.
This or Nest Hub?
Which it did whatsapp calls. That would make it genuinely useful for me.

As far as I can tell, the only things going for Alexa are Skype (which ain't much nowadays, but is additional to Alexa/Alexa calling)) and Amazon's Ring doorbells being cheaper than Google's Nest doorbells ... But things might be different if I was already hooked on Prime, and didn't mind being prompted to buy things and services from Amazon.

Google's usp is free phone calling to UK mobiles and landlines. Which combined with Google's 'directory enquiries' becomes spookily amazing. "Call Travis Perkins in Ashford". and in a moment or two it is ringing.
There was (still is?) a matter of quality. Alexa was booted in favour of Google because Google was simply smarter and better at understanding. And if you use Google's Apps, you'll love the integration.
All that said, the Lenovo products aren't mainstream Google, and seem to have had the occasional problem with annoyingly delayed updates. But if you want a dedicated Google Assistant device with display+camera, this is massively cheaper than a Hub Max.

Then you need a Facebook Portal device. Which, amazingly doesn't do Google stuff! Google Duo gives better call quality than WhatsApp by all accounts.

Should have said - this is the reason that I wouldn't buy one, fair price though this is.
eg Problems streaming from TP-Link Kasa cameras forums.lenovo.com/t5/…e/4 seems still unresolved, while working fine with Google's own displays.
Whenever Lenovo lose interest in selling this product (if they haven't already), it has immediate potential to become a paperweight. Whereas, it is likely that Google's interest is to keep their devices going, harvesting whatever data, for as long as ever possible.
Anyone know if this would work with Hik CCTV camera set up, i.e. would I be able to download and use the Hik-connect app and use to keep a live view? Cheers

Nope, afraid not. Only HIKVision's domestic camera's (I cant remember the brand) support Alexa / Google assistant .
We've one of these and find it very handy, but it doesn't hear as well as our other Google devices. We find extra volume is needed on this, and we need to repeat more often; it's not so bad that we don't find it useful, it's just something to be aware of.

Thanks. Apologies in advance for my ignorance, but wasn't so much asking about Alexa/Google interaction with cameras, but whether I would be able to download the HIK-vision app onto the device to view live camera feeds. Cheers

Oh. Ok, well no to that too I’m afraid.
I have hikvision CCtV as well and it doesn’t integrate with the screens at all unfortunately.

You don't/can't download ANY apps onto these things. You need to link the device to your camera app account. If that integration is possible, then you can "interact" or command the device to "show" you the camera feed.

The best thing is that if you have an android phone and can't find it at home, you can ask Google to make it ring!

I would go with this as goggle is more versatile, so much can be done, I can control my Sony tvs and soundbars, ask questions and it will send details to my phone, ask for directions and will send to your phone, I can also control my lifx lights to and hive. Its so much better

You can't use Google voice search with this? I have a strong Northern accent and I'm always amazed by the accuracy of Google's understanding..

Thanks! By chance I ended up with 2 x lenovo 8, 1 x lenovo 10 and 1 Hub Max. So I have to choose one or 2 of them and probably sell the rest.
I am ok to keep the rest of Alexas as they are and use a Google device or 2 alongside, I really don't think I need another 4 and selling the Alexa ones will not bring me much money. I just have to make a decision in between the hub max and Lenovo 10, if I keep 2 of the devices, I will probably keep one one of the expensive ones and the Lenovo 8.

The keeper deserves to be the hub max. Should be good for the long term and capable of any of the Google party tricks. That’s also why it would bring in the most if selling!

I wouldn’t call it beautiful, but it is a superbly logical product design solution to the ‘portrait AND landscape modes” question that Lenovo set themselves. But utterly bonkers that having chosen that variable form factor, it only works in landscape mode - except for Duo calls (works both ways).
And fwiw, I think the fake ‘bamboo’ back of the 10inch version looks really tacky.

Amazon Alexa has a 62% market share in the smart speaker domain for a reason, superior products. I have both smart speakers and i prefer my Alexa in 90% of scenarios, Googles advantages are better at questions and better for playing white noise, YouTube and thats it for me. I have 2x Echo Dot, 1x Echo Show 5, 1x Google Home Mini
Really like mine and this is good value at this price I would say. Shame about Netflix but it does work well with plex which is a big win.

The software is all Google, and generic to 3rd party devices, so it should be good for as long as Google want to support it
