This is the best price at the moment. I am curious people's opinions on these, how they compare to Echo 8 and Google Home and if they worth the extra £10. Still have mine sealed in the cupboard and debating if is worth to go with Echo 8 instead, as my house is all Alexa.

Lenovo Smart 8 Inch Display with the Google AssistantClearance with a 12 month Argos guaranteeThis new Google-powered Lenovo Smart Speaker is the first of its kind, bringing new and exciting innovation to your home. Choose to stand the 8-inch display horizontally or vertically, the wedge-shaped back accommodates both. It's both touch-screen and voice controlled, so with a 'Hey Google' you can ask it to do things like video call friends, check your calendar, set reminders, play music, control smart home appliances and ask for recipes, which are then transformed into step by step instructions, so you can follow the recipe in real time.

If you want to watch apps like Netflix, you can cast it to the Lenovo Smart Speaker, providing your phone has a cast feature. You can also ask to watch a channel, and if you're a YouTube subscriber it'll pull it live right from there. Cool huh? Plus, it comes with a True Block Privacy Shutter to cover your camera lens and a microphone mute button to help safeguard your privacy.

Awesome device. Paid £49 at AO but even at this price worth it. The large and higher quality display makes it a perfect clock replacement.

Ive got 2 from AO eBay with the code for that price, unfortunately I didn't have the chance to set them up. I'm curious how these compare with the Echo 8, as my all house is with Alexa non display and not sure if I want to mix them up. One of the reasons I've got it is because is easier for my kids with YouTube, but apart from that I do not know if there are other advantages.
Posted a bit at the wrong time considering Echo 8 and Google Hub are £10 cheaper, but apart from the deal on AO, I've never seen these so cheap.

This is what I am debating. Got 2 and the plan is to get cameras and possibly video door bell, but still debating if I should go with Alexa instead, it seems there is more choice for such devices Alexa enabled.
Great device use everyday speaker quality good well worth it Evan at this price

Thanks. Apart from the advantage to use YouTube on these (important to me), I do not know which ones are better. Posted a bit at the wrong time, as the Echo and Google Hub are on sale, but I think the price is competitive, reviews show this is better than Google Hub but can't find a comparison with the Echo 8.

I have the TP-Link Tapo cameras streaming to ours. Granted it only does it for about five minutes each time you ask it to connect.

Thanks, didn't know these will work with TP Link but never looked into Tapo version. Do you know if they do any outdoor wireless cameras, thanks. This is why I want a smart display and it seems there are more and cheaper choices for Alexa rather than Google. Thanks again!

I would also like to know this. Ideally a POE camera would be best for me
We have an Alexa in our kitchen.

Bought one of these when it was £49 earlier this year

My wife is not a huge techie and likes the kitchen to "look nice"

I therefore was expecting her to hate it and I thought that I could sell it on ebay to get most of my money back if she did not like it.

She likes the look of it and I was allowed to keep it.

The sound quality is surprisingly good.

"hey google play christmas music" - this was a great success when the family visited at xmas. (My wife asked it to do this!!!! )

I dont have a youtube subscription but it does play youtube videos when I ask it to do so.

For the kitchen, we used to use the alexa (no display) for cooking timers.
Alexa seems to have some sort of bug where it would randomly cancel the timer which is extremely annoying.
The lenovo lets you have multiple timers which you can name
e.g "hey google turkey timer for 3 hours", "hey google roast potato timer 35 minutes"
It also displays the timers on the screen which is really helpful.

It works with my tplink smart plugs and also with my wifi bulbs.

It doesnt automatically play iplayer or netflix but others have commented that they can cast from their phones to it.

Is there much difference between this and the Google nest hub ??
Argyll6829/12/2019 10:09

Expensive clock

More than a clock. Speaker is better than the standard Google fare. Good at this price even though I snapped up 3 at £50 from AO
Got this and google home hub. This has miles better sound than home hub had to get bluetooth speaker for home hub. and the bigger screen is better size. Plus you get free you tube music on these which I’ve been using all Xmas brilliant Alexa have to pay for music.
I got one for about £50 a few months back and love it

This one has bigger screen (8 vs 7 inches) it seems the speakers are better and more important, it has a camera, so you can use it for video calls. The camera has a shutter if you're concerned about privacy. Considering the difference in price, I believe this one is better. The advantage of Google Hub is it is a bit more compact and may look better in the bedroom as a clock.

Had the same issue to go for Echo or this as i needed echo dot for my sonos 5. Only amazon does devices with aux out. In the end went with Lenovo as youtube is more important for me and cant cast in Amazon devices. Came across Yonomi app which can intergrate Alexa, Siri and Google assistant. Now it doesnt matter for me to have alexa and google at home. With Yonomi app we can best of all worlds. Why should we be limited?Hope it helps

Don't know if they do an outdoor version, but they keep coming out with different models. Streaming to the smart display I find it's slightly behind in time, but that could be the internet speed. The ones I bought only record to a SD card. But it does send alerts to your phone. You can watch in real time on your phone with the app.
I've been using this for almost 1 year.. very very buggy!

On good days, picks up my commands clearly and quickly.

However, whenever Google does some software changes, Lenovo is slow to update theirs.. so you'll end up getting a dumb photo display that doesn't pick up your commands, or gone crazy not registering what I've said.. after some complaints on their Lenovo forum, and some time later after Lenovo updates their software, it's all good..

Recently (about 3 weeks ago till now), the display again got dumb.. I suspect Google updated their software or codes and Lenovo developers has yet to make any update on their Smart Displays..

Mine is the opposite. I have more problems with our Google mini's. Never had any problems with our 3 Lenovo smart units since day one.

I have 2 Google home mini (first gen) as well, never had any problems with that. In fact the mic in the Google home mini is far more superior and picks up my voice from another room. Since this kind of voice assistance uses Google ecosystem, I would suggest to use Google product as any changes in software, Google's products would be updated first. I do regret getting that Lenovo product but at that point in time, it's the only choice if you're looking for a smart display with camera.

My main problems with the mini is it keeps losing the wi-fi connection. I have to keep resetting them usually half a dozen times a week.
Hell I saw 'Lenovo 8" ' & thought I'd found a replacement for my well used Lenovo tablet
