Tempted as a home assistant controller, with the dock it'll fit nicely on the coffee table
That was my thought too. But.... Android 9 is a bit outdated.

If you want somthing with a dock its alright, ok for playing videos or using as a photo frame.
The fire HD8 is a better buy otherise with its faster processor
Not a fan of the bloatware and their limted app store on the Amazon Fire tablets. Not sure what the Lenovo's are like in terms of bloatware/OS.

Watched an hour of iPlayer and battery and used 6% battery. Blows Amazon fire tablet away for battery life and basic tasks. Bit laggy occasionally but fine for kids tablet

    USB C?
micro usb, but the dock is magentic pins so most won't use the separte micro usb for charging.

I like the form factor... would be happy to pay more for performance so are there any comparable products out there?

2gig of ram - the OS is going to be swapping out of the box alone, I wouldn't touch anything with under 4gig now (I prefer 8 myself, worth the extra bob). It may find some limited range use for remote control functions in kiosk mode but modern requirements are must too much for this now.
Find a tablet with 4/8 GB of RAM with a charging dock for £75... I'll wait.

Thinking of getting this to control ROON / Tidal for my streamer.

Too underpowered? I've not much experience with tablets.

My kids were using an ancient galaxy tab that finally surrendered its life last week. It's only used for YouTube kids so wasn't worried about the 2GB ram. Already got a Lenovo M10 Plus that we've been happy with so took a punt on this.

The M8 arrived this morning and I've set it up and it's a decent bit of kit for the price. The dock is a good little addition too for the kiddos.

It's noticeably slower than the M10 at installing apps but for what this is going to be used for, it's more than sufficient performance wise.

Really fortunate this deal was posted when it was, as the galaxy tab only died 24hrs prior and was worried I'd have to spend a fortunate on a tablet that the kids will inevitably destroy at some point anyway. (edited)
