I've got this tablet and the 7 inch 2016 kindle fire.

Neither are brilliant but they are ok for basic browsing, video and social media. Hardly anything between them in terms of performance.

8 inch fire HD with Alexa, 16gb ROM for £49.99 seems like a better deal (Tesco)

Get the fire 8 from Argos with the £5 off for £44.99

Downside (for me anyway) is no Playstore on the Fire tablets. You're locked to Amazon store which isn't as good as Google play.

Please don't buy this. I have the 8 inch version and the combination of the 1GB RAM and the poverty spec Mediatek processor means even a simple webpage like Wikipedia takes about 30sec to open. Forget about graphics/ Javascript heavy pages. It's so slow to be almost unbearable. Yes I'm aware there are some high end variants of Mediatek processors out there but the one in this tablet, paired with the 1GB RAM, is absolute pants.

Would make a great Christmas gift for someone you really despise.

Close comparison

But the Fire HD 8 looks like a better option imo

No Google Play but that can be installed onto it.

No GPS but apparently there is a way of tethering GPS from your mobile phone

You can put Google play on it. Just search Google for instructions. I have even changed the UI to use nova launcher rather than the Amazon thing.
