Coin miner script. So they are using your CPU to mine cryptocurrency
There was a study done recently that something like 5000 websites are using some form of this & there's a new variant which opens in a hidden window / tab in the background so it continues even after you close the site. Sneaky

Thanks for posting this, I've not heard of of Gigarefurb before, myself. A false positive perhaps?

Thanks OP. I'm tempted.

Nothing special, cheaper on ebay. cold.
I wander is it not too slow - with this CPU :
  • Intel i5-3210M otherwise probably good option for a daily laptop.
I was looking for replacement of 6 years old Dell but possibly the Dell has still faster processor ( and is still working but slowed down ).

Sounds very much like it's related, that's the telltale sign of a miner script running; high CPU / GPU usage which in turn ramps up fan due to increased heat. Restart browser and/or PC if it's still going.

To be fair to Gigarefurb their site may have been compromised so it may not be them doing it. I guess someone should inform them though

The same virus check link is showing up as clean for me looks like it has been fixed.
All the more reason to run noscript on every site until you trust it.
I ordered a laptop form them last Christmas (deal posted here) came in 2 days. There was a fault with it but their service team had it collected and back to me for Xmas Eve. Very good service and I have just ordered another dell from them at the weekend (8gig ram 128ssd under £200) as the last one has been faltless
I can confirm that I no longer receive the security warning when visiting the website, seems like it was indeed compromised
Hi,
I purchased from this company some months back, item purchased was graded as in very good condition.

Delivery was quick however, upon opening the box the laptop I’d ordered had substantial damage - deep scratches on side and may be two/three areas on the front where the casing had been damage. Also strng smell of tobacco - odd.

Rang to return and gave reason as above - advisor got somewhat technical and went on to inform me that scratches can be within a set tolerance. Fortunately for me, after submitting pictures as evidence they allowed return and got the money back.
What keyboard layout is it? English UK with the £ and tall "enter" keys or International English (US) ?
The weakest point on this kit is likely to be the 1366x768 screen. Fine <= 12" but making the laptop bigger/heavier for no distinct advantage. The problem with many slightly larger Thinkpad T5xxx series advertised on ebay and elsewhere is that Lenovo made different variants including 1600x900 or even 1920x1028 with the same model number which deliver a distinctly better experience if you can get your hands on one. But most are still 1366x768 so beware.
This laptop is ancient in computing terms. Battery is likely to be pretty worn as well ie won't hold much charge.

The low res screen, and TN would be dealer breakers for me as well.

That said, it you're looking for something very basic and you're planning to travel much with it, I suppose it's not a terrible choice, but it wouldn't be something that I would buy.

Quite a few have posted negative comments, but none those posts give details of anything better or even as good for the same money.

I agree. I already bought this model but since ordering I have noticed they have a sale on most of their laptops. You will probably know more than me but worth taking a look if you don’t like this one?

Purchased a Dell e6230 from them last year.

Arrived next day in excellent condition. Battery also only showed 15% wear.

I'd not hesitate on using them again.

Im writing this on a 8 year old 2.4GHz core 2 duo and ive used that as a daily laptop all that time. I depend on it to work from home 2 days a week. An i5 would be a rocket ship compared to my computer.

Thanks - That would be great - I am not sure why i5 on my wife's 5 years laptop with 4gb ram is so slow sometimes.
On brink of reinstalling the whole windows business.
This lapi look very cute and reasonable choice - especially if battery is good state ;-)
Pretty blatant self-promotion - OP has only posted deals from this website.
Come on OP, you've got to try better than that.
Hmm for an i5 its a great price. I know its an older model but wondering how slow is this really? Not had a chance to check out reviews or look into it any further.
Anyone got one of these, whats the verdict?

Hmm.. well spotted... that makes the whole miner script a lot more suspicious... especially how it was magically 'fixed' after it was called out on here
Site is offline ATM.

I bought a T420 with an i7 from them a couple of years ago. Seemed fine bar a slight crack in the rear (if you 'cuse the expression), which was a little disappointing for a grade A refurb.

Still working ok. Would probably buy again if looking for another solid business spec machine.

CPU has a passmark of 3812 that's faster than:

I3 6006u at 3116

Slightly slower than an
I5 6200u at 4009

So anyone moaning about the CPU being slow needs to think very very carefully here because it's equal to or better than ANYTHING in this price range new I pretty much guarantee that.

The i5 8250u processor has a passmark of 7577 which is obviously much faster but you won't get that on anything under £500.

Yes you might need a new battery but those cam be had for a small amount extra and it'd still be a cheap laptop.

Up until now my youngest is gaming on a Lenovo X201 and for minecraft & roblox it's perfect ably acceptable.

What people fail to realise is that CPU power has been ridiculous for a long time now and even 3/4 generation processors are still more than adequate and as I say this laptop is hugely more powerful & has better build quality than anything with

A6/A8/Celeron/Pentium/Atom stuck in it
