you can always find good ex-corporate Thinkpads on eBay. I know I've bought many over the years which have been in top condition, many with Lenovo warranty still left on them. You can get some bargains when you consider those machines most probably spent most their lives on a docking station, doing excels and powerpoints, and if they were moved around they went in official Lenovo laptop bags.

2013 processor. How much life can you expect to get from this?
Put linux on it and you have a system that will fly. Its not exactly a true i7 though as it's the 'U' model. Still not a bad price for it though. HEAT.

I would guess it depends on what you intend to do with it?

Haha, not where I work.... We get loads of laptops with broken screens / water damage etc. from careless users not treating them with respect

However, the keyboards are quite easy to replace on these if you get worn keys
Just be aware these are not top grade....

And that's just what they tell you about. I got a "refub" ThinPad from ITzoo and it had a large ugly white spot on the screen they didn't mention.

Actually, converse to my rant in the CeX deal, the xx40 ThinkPad range uses Haswell CPUs with a still modern instruction set. While I would prefer a quad core, this 4600U would still be preferable to most of the CPU options in prior ThinkPad ranges.

Indeed, don't ignore this.

Still a better purchase than the CeX "deal" though!
I seem to remember you get a 10% code if you sign up for their newsletter. It's just generic - something like WELCOME10 may be worth a try!

Edit: Just found the email it's THANKS10 but only valid on certain items.

We've two T440Ps (4th gen i7)

16gig each & 9000+ passmark benchmark on one (i7-4910mq) & 7200+ on the other (i7-4712mq), it's only fairly recently mid priced machines caught up (but lack the build quality).

We've also a W540 in a docking station with 32gig & an i7-4800mq that runs as the house computer.

Most of todays budged laptops have very poor underclocked processors put it in these days.

Lenovo T440p with 1080p screen + upgraded T450 touchpad is the best option, you can upgrade the stock CPU to a Quad (4C/8T) that will outperform current 8th gen 15W ULV Quads:

i7-4910MQ vs i5-8250U vs i7-8650U

The cheapest 4th gen mobile Quad i7-4700MQ could match the i5-8250U.

Processors don't break - it's usually the fans or the hard drive that give in first

I think itzoo should have section showing examples of what they class as grade A, minor marks etc are.
I purchased a laptop from them and it said minor marks on case but it had a massive deep scratch across the top. Minor would be scuffs or tiny scratches less than 3 cm.
Also there were some biscuit crumbs on the keyboard and charger.
Everything was well packed though and I received my item the next day even though i only opted for standard delivery.

I think it's pure luck, some ppl have commented that items have been 'like new'.

Not in my company, each year the bags get cheaper and cheaper and are now paper thin. I went to the IT room and found a perfect old hard bag being thrown out and use that!

I still use mine at work and push it hard, it handles most things fine but the fan runs full speed all the time. It's hot and noisy.

The screens apparently fail often. My screen went, but no one else in my team had this issue.

Very tempted to go this route but there don't seem to be any on eBay in the UK with the Nvidia graphics option. The quad core Haswell mobile CPUs don't seem very cheap or common on there either.

So it's in theory a good option, but not an easy one to actually invest in.

Very true! I own a computer
Repair shop and in 20 years I think i have only seen two dead CPU’s. there is no reason why that i7 shouldn’t go on for 20 years or longer. The same can’t be said for the rest of the parts though. Having said all that, I’d guess you would get a good 5 more years out of it anyway.
Thanks op! I've ordered one.
