Some potentially useful links for you guys

If you intend to use linux, this will fix the cpu throttling problem
    github.com/erp…led

If you want to run MacOS, there's a comprehensive guide here
    github.com/val…-oc

Deployed over 500 of these and never had one require RMA or any serious work in the time we've had them, serious reliability for the price you're getting
    haggisheid's avatar
That's a great recommendation, the reviews on this laptop are very good, bargain price!

Fantastic deal. Got this same spec off itzoo last year off a code for £219. Bought a cheap enterprise key for Office 21 Pro off the net and installed full MS Office. Also purchased the 12.1 inch Full HD X280 with the same CPU and 8GB RAM for travel off eBay for £170, for £400 these two laptops will do me for at least the next 3 years. Really impressed with the 8th gen i5 on these.

Tank like reliability and build quality too, but then it's a ThinkPad!!

Top: if you don't like the fan coming on often, go into advanced power options and set max CPU setting to around 97% (anything under 100%). My fan rarely comes on now, with no noticeable difference in speed.. Can probably do with replacing the thermal paste given its just over 3 years old but this trick worked perfectly.

Has anyone ordered one from here, are the keyboards back-lit and if not have they been painted like the other refurbishment companies are doing? As I want to avoid a painted keyboard.
    sashablue's avatar
Mine is not painted and has a backlit keyboard. Fn+space-bar

Waiting for them to be £180 again
    Deal_Veteran's avatar
Was it not the (8GB RAM + 256GB SSD) version that was seling at £180 back then?

Great to hear so many are happy with these, but be aware the Control and Function keys are inexplicably switched around and the cursor keys are annoyingly placed*.

I ended up getting a newer Lenovo model because of that.

    *for me. YMMV!
    hcc27's avatar
You can easily switch that around in the bios.

Sent mine back today after 2 hrs defective and wouldn't start up blue error screen memory issues.
    mrmo786's avatar
    Same thing happened to mine
  8. haggisheid's avatar
For anyone that has had a blue screen experience, the dealer is sending out an email to support this, a faulty batch of Ram memory is causing this and you can either replace it yourself and they will supply the module or send it back, great customer service, very impressed.
    Bundesliga_Punter's avatar
Just received the email as I was packaging mine up to send back. Hopefully the new ram will sort out the issue, as my unit is pristine and I was reluctant to lose it. Can't fault the service.
  9. Bundesliga_Punter's avatar
I've got the same blue screen issue. Has anyone found a fix before I send it back?
    mrmo786's avatar
I tried formatting and reinstalling windows again. Didn't work as it kept crashing during the install.
  10. hotpotatojr's avatar
They give us these to use at my work. Seriously can't get on with the Ctrl key not being the bottom left key, then using my Dell after work!
    hcc27's avatar
You can swap Ctrl and Fn in the BIOS.
  11. pwel's avatar
It seems that most of these ex-company t480's, have been sold out by now, and these resellers are scraping the bottom of the barrel now, with those left, not in the best condition.
  12. baldyj's avatar
2 delivered last Tuesday and as others have mentioned they both suffered from periodic blue screens. Seller sent out two replacements received today and so far so good. Not ideal that the problem exists, but the seller has been spot in with communication and remedy.
  13. JohnSmith33's avatar
these are great, replaceable battery too!
    Karling's avatar
    Are you sure?

Got mine yesterday, very impressed first Thinkpad (always wanted one)

Backlight keyboard and fingerprint sensor which I didn't expect, and condition is awesome. Just not sure about Windows 11... first time on it and no likey... guess I will have to at some point.

Now need to buy an internal battery/bigger external for travel, google showing so many options, wondering if anyone here can recommend a place they have used already.
    Many thanks
  15. RustySpoons's avatar
Mine arrived earlier, it is in absolutely appauling condition.
The screen and bezel is covered all over in scratches and chips, it's as if someone was storing something between the screen and keyboard. The palm rest is all shiny and looks heavily used.
Also the battery is totally exhausted with 1:30h runtime.
Annoyed as they shouldn't have sent it out like this and I have the inconvience of going to the post office to return it.

    Mine’s going back too.
There’s a vertical line on the screen which is either a burn / pressure damage. Plus the processor seems to be the 8250u as opposed to the 8350u it should have.

Crazy how the thinkpads are coming back into fashion
    RustySpoons's avatar
They never went out of fashion
  17. jamiedaviesuk's avatar
Thanks. I’ve been thinking of getting a laptop for home use and this is a really good spec for the price and with the 1yr warranty! Sunday morning impulse buy done!

1% TCB. (£2.38) every little helps
  19. 1nf's avatar
I have used this laptop every day for about 8 months now and absolutely love it, especially the keyboard.
    hcc27's avatar
Agree. The ThinkPad keyboards are something else, some programmers keep their old T series lappies for programming on the go for this very reason.
  20. haggisheid's avatar
Sounds like a great laptop, seriously considering it
  21. haggisheid's avatar
    Ordered! Thanks OP!
    Karling's avatar
Did it come with both batteries?

One fixed under cover and one removable?
  22. NeverBagHolding's avatar
These Lenovo laptops are amazing, I got a yoga with the same specs, touch screen i5 etc but for £100 off eBay as a gift for younger sister. She loves it and I have to say it is as fast as my MacBook Pro !
  23. DavidMoran's avatar
    Ordered. Thanks!
  24. rhodri29's avatar
Bloody great laptop. Had mine since 2012 and still going strong! Just as fast as then.

Are you sure it's not a MacBook??

That's the rubbish that the Apple lovers usually spout
  25. gordo1964's avatar
Stick 1/2 Tb SSD and you are sorted. Extra 16gb ram can’t hurt. Have been buying these second hand since the 40variant and never had an issue

Is the screen IPS? Or the keyboard backlit? Anyone know?

    Hot anyway.
    Ega_Hacass's avatar
Had this model as work computer. Laptop was amazing, screen not so much. It wasn't IPS, not sure though maybe it is an option, but doubt it.
  29. Smoggy1970's avatar
    Jolly good deal.

    I do like a T480.

Great laptop , Can upgrade the SSD easily , windows 11 compatible ( prefer 10 currently ) . Also works fine with USB C dock ( I use the lenovo USB C one ) .

For the money is great deal. Heat added
    weslei.carraro's avatar
Hi buddy, with the dock it worked network, power and additional screens? Pls. Thx.

was just looking at this laptop, what kind of ssd does it have inside? an M.2 NVMe or the old 2.5" sata jobbies?
    xenny's avatar
    Just received one and NVMe.
  32. teerex's avatar
Good deal, been looking for touchscreen though it'll probably be more expensive.

A bit late of a note but the upgrade to a better screen is well worth it.
A comparison between the stock panel IPS (45% ntsc gamut) and upgrade panel IPS (72% ntsc gamut).
    old.reddit.com/r/t…de/
The upgraded panel is a must for any multimedia work that relies on colour accuracy and is also capable of HDR streaming videos/youtube (edited)
    RustySpoons's avatar
It will probably cost nearly as much as the laptop if you can find one.
  36. teerex's avatar
Torn between this T480, the L380 touchscreen and the X380 Yoga also touchscreen. Any tips? Would love a touchscreen for the kids, even though there's a trade off of the smaller 13" screen.
    xenny's avatar
You actively want a screen covered in sticky fingermarks?
  37. mrmo786's avatar
Got mine. Looked nice but keeps going through blue screen loop. Tried formatting and reinstalling windows - no luck
  38. jaher's avatar
I just bought a Lenovo yoga 370 but I am going to return it for a refund as there is a brightness issue with the slider not working. Tried updating drivers no go. Second laptop I am returning straight after buying refurb off eBay I am looking for a hybrid flex laptop that is affordable would people recommend buying a cheap brand new one off Argos for example or second hand older model off eBay with slightly better specs ? (edited)
    jaher's avatar
For example from Argos you can get for 350 a i3 Asus Vivobook which i think is i3.

But can get i5 laptops like this one on the deal on eBay but obv second hand.
