Great ultrabook for a great price - I could not find this cheaper than £1000 anywhere.

Yes its not Skylake, and yes I think it has a TN screen but its a FANTASTIC ultrabook for the price (and yes its not a Macbook).
I have confirmed with Amazon today that if I don't like the screen I can send the laptop back for a full refund.

Brief spec:
Product Type: Ultrabook, Processor:Intel Core i5 (5th Gen) 5200U / 2.2 GHz ( 2.7 GHz ) / 3 MB Cache

I did
Has been this price since Xmas, so no rush (probably).
I am saving up for a new macbook and now i am confused this is so much cheaper, tough decision ahead.
I'll add heat - excellent price for a Carbon
Very good price for a Thinkpad X1 with i5 and FHD.

The next cheapest price I can found including ebay is £800 brand new.

Super hot.

Some people might just buy some and put on ebay to make a profit.

I cant seem to find if this is IPS or not. First available on Amazon Nov 2015... so is it possible that the screen has been upgraded? No mention of IPS anywhere definitely points to an TN panel, but still an excellent price.

It has fluctuated, and the stock never lasts long. They've just released the new model with OLED, so this is probably more of a "clearance" item.
Pretty sure it's a TN panel as the ThinkWiki's indicate that the 1080P is only TN.
No idea about "The TN panel is horrible" as the original X1 Carbon only had a TN panel but got good reviews according this T420 screen replacement guide:
thinkwiki.org/wik…one

Anyway, this is the 2015 model aka 3rd Gen and these are the ThinkWikis for this:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:X1_Carbon_%283rd_Gen%29
thinkwiki.de/X1_…015
Looks like it's going fast on, only 2 left in stock. Excellent information that this is the 3rd, the picture from Amazon is not correct, looks more like first gen which is wrong. TN is not that bad as long as they use a screen with passable contrast and fine angles of view. Ordered for a friend of mine.
Quality laptops - we use the i7 versions at work! Battery life is really good too! Heat!

Base it on the operating system so that's Windows 10 versus OSX 10.11 El Capitan which suits your purposes more?
Good laptop but first thing to do is to upgrade screen to FHD IPS

If they do not sell at good price within 30 days, they can always return to amazon for full refund. They only need to pay for the return postage.

Therefore, there is very small downside could happen compare to upside gain.
Holy batpoo, that is stupid price for an awesome laptop.

Arthur Brown levels of hotness.
All gone! Seems like a great find if you're after an ultrabook. I'm a Mac user mainly now but was still tempted by this!

bought one couple weeks back as a work laptop... its a TN.

really nice laptop though.. has a sim card slot for mobile internet...
i think i'll upgrade my screen thanks for info
Bought one two weeks ago but the viewing angles of the screen are not the best (but then am used to an IPS LCD screen at work)
Has 3 years Lenovo next-day on-site warranty!!! And I like the RapidCharging (charges battery very quickly)
Mine came with Windows 7 SP1 but upgraded to WIndows 10 (downloaded Lenovo System Update to download and install all drivers but didn't install the EM7345 4G LTE driver so downloaded that one from the Lenovo site)

But are they passable, the viewing angles? For example if you look at a normal TN PC monitor?

I have a T420 with a TN panel too and the viewing angles on that screen are better and colours seem more accurate as well :-( Screen is still ok on this X1 but disappointing for a premium business ultrabook. Still, am ok with it -
do Amazon have free returns? In that case worth taking the plunge so you can see for yourself

Yes, I don't know about free returns, but for item of this price it's fine to pay a return fee if I don't like it (even if I have to pay shipping both ways as I live outside UK). I see on ebay that even touch QHD LG panels are around 125GBP mark.

No such opportunities now, all sold out.
Thanks OP. What a great deal.
Mine got delivered today!

Same - got here at 8:15am. Thank you Prime.

Screen is so-so but is actually better than I expected after tweaking the colour profile. I'm not entirely sure I'll change it yet.
The keyboard is absolute bliss, lots of travel, infact better than my MBP and that used to be my previous benchmark of good laptop keyboards. Its fast, light, and feels incredibly well built. Its the first ultrabook that I've had my hand that I don't feel like I could bend just using my finger and thumb. Overall for £560, this was an absolute steal.

Oh if you were lucky enough to get one and are thinking of putting a touchscreen into it, forget about it. You need a new lid plus some more cables/componants.

Agreed - its a steal. Love the design of it.

Dunno whether to keep W7pro or update to W10.

Keep 7 Pro is you are using it for work. W10 is good but still takes longer to open apps etc plus 7 pro still more compatible with various software and hardware. In fact 7 Pro is highly sort after now! I like windows 10 but hate the networking side of things since W8 upwards. Having to use command prompt to remove a wifi network permanently....wtf?
Yeah left it on W7. Cheers.

Gutted I missed out on this. The search goes on!

Out of interest, does anyone have an opinion how this compares to the current Dell Inspirion i7 deal that's getting pretty hot?

X1 Carbon is light ultrabook made to be light thus not so fast. The Dell has proper HQ procesor unlike the U in here. If you want perforamnce - the Dell is much better, no doubt about it.
