Deal should state that it's

"It's Grade B refurbished and in fully operational condition with minor scratches"

plus maybe that it looks like a laptop from the 90's

You could buy X240 or x230 for that price

Overpriced for this model. I was expected an SSD before I read into it. Some of the big ex-lease refurbers have this for around £150-180 with an SSD.

Nothing wrong with the X220 other than it’s a 2011 model and a bit expensive, you can get the X240 for this price.

This is an awful deal. It's a 2nd gen i5.

Hi Lewis, would be awesome if you could point me to such deals for x240. Cheapest refurb I could find is 429 quid.

Try this:
ebay.co.uk/itm…5zY

There's others available but I've used this company many times before and can vouch for them, we use them for many of our ex-lease, low-cost, high-value machines.

You're welcome - glad I could help!

Some other considerations that are better than this 'deal'

ebay.co.uk/itm…vlj
T440 w/ IPS 900p screen, 8gb of ram (2x as much), 4th gen (vs 2nd gen here), 500gb HDD - £220

ebay.co.uk/itm…vlj
As above just with less RAM and some minor screen issues - £200

ebay.co.uk/itm…LLn
X240, 4th gen i5 (vs 2nd gen here), otherwise pretty similar specs but much newer - under £200

rectech.co.uk/6,2…tml
X230 so 3rd gen i5 and otherwise identical specs for £140 (probably one of the best deals if you're in the market)

ebay.co.uk/itm…TLA
If you really want an X220 there's always this which even spec'd up better than the deal offering is cheaper.

gigarefurb.co.uk/len…tml
X230 with otherwise identical specs

Looking away from Lenovo options

rectech.co.uk/6,1…tml
HP Elitebook for under £110 with slightly faster processor from the same generation as this deal, slightly smaller hard disk but similar build quality in a 12inch form factor

rectech.co.uk/6,1…tml
The next generation Elitebook so one year newer processor but otherwise identical spec for £120 and a fingerprint reader

rectech.co.uk/8,2…tml
Latitude E7440 with FHD 14inch screen, otherwise pretty similar specs but again 4th generation processor vs 2nd. Just appears to have a minor scuff on the monitor but for most people that's a pretty insignificant thing when in use. £220.

Sorry but to that end this deal is ICE cold to me. Lots of better value out there even within the same model. If you want to spend £210 on a laptop you can do so much better.

You obviously know what you're looking at, don't suppose there's anything around the £400 mark preferably close on grade A if a refurb.

As mentioned before these thinkpads look dated so wasn't really drawing me in as a bday present for my daughter but on ebays front screen theres a i7 with ssd Grade B for 315.

Cheers.

£400 to do what with, just homework in MS office or are we talking other stuff like doing photo editing, playing games etc? Have you seen a more modern thinkpad? Can you suggest models that look 'dated' to you that you've seen so I have an idea.

£400 will get you quite a lot of choices and pretty reasonable specifications but to really narrow down what is a massive area in the refurb market it would help to get some guidance of things you would like for your money

Some ideas of other things that will help narrow down a good deal for you

- Screen size you're looking for
- Hard drive requirements
- Additional features you want (under a certain weight, should achieve certain battery life etc).

Just a budget would just be easier to send you a list of suppliers to look through yourself. So if you can answer those questions then I'm more than happy to find some options for you but there are literally 1000's of different options and configurations to really provide a clear answer at this stage.

Sh'ed use mainly for office programs, internet, music and video, if any games would only be browser based.
Screen would be ideally 15" although 14 isn't out of the question. Lighter weighted would be a bonus as she'd be moving it around from room to room and then out to grandparents etc.
Main things are that its not going to become sluggish 9 months down the line and also anything that makes it more responsive and kids have no patience waiting for programs to load etc.
Before i started looking at refurbs my main specs were for at least an i3 aiming at an i5, 128gb ssd would be ample as it would be connected to my NAS for mass data storage and possibly in a colour, even grey/silver.
If you want to put up suppliers that would be fine.
Cheers !!

Spend the money on eBay. You'll get a lot better. Or spend a bit more and buy something like a Thinkpad T-series from a few years back - now there's a solid machine!

Bought mine at ITZOO for £119.

I’ve got both the T450 (works machine) and a X240 and they’re much the same build wise. Get a 1080p screen dropped into the X240 and it’s the even better.

One thing to watch is the 40 series (T440, x240 etc) have the awful all in one touchpad although it’s not difficult to change and you can get the 50 series pad for about £30 on eBay.

I bought an X240 (4th gen i5, 256mb ssd and 8gb ram) from eBay for a friend with the remainder of the Lenovo on site warranty (6months) for £214 delivered last week. I really don’t understand how this has heat.

I'll second that. Worst touchpad ever on the T440 and X240 - basically either use the TrackPoint, an external mouse or tap--to-click. I cannot believe that ever made it out of prototype stage with something so heinous.

I know you don't really want a Lenovo due to the dated look you feel about it but I have a suggestion that might work. Not seen a great deal of other options, and I would not recommend a consumer grade machine. So with that budget something like the following would be my ideas.

ebay.co.uk/itm…BoZ

T450, i5, vpro, 8gb ram, high res screen, dual batteries, warranty till 29th July 2018 with Lenovo should anything go wrong. No webcam or fingerprint reader on it (depending on your child that could be a good/bad thing). But it is £329

ebay.co.uk/itm…lB6

Another seller, but it's slightly better with a 240gb SSD, webcam and longer warranty for about 1 year. Only apparent down side is that it's apparently got some minor marks. Otherwise it's the same price.

Add a vinyl cover for it in a design she will like or a solid colour and it turns it into a whole new machine

ebay.co.uk/itm…141

As just one of 1000's of options.
