Seems to be a lot of refurbished laptops being posted lately. But no body reading the details, just the description. Going to be a lot of disappointment. If you look at details, it's says it has cracked palm rest and issues with the screen. Looks worse than a grade c!
DodgeySolenoid21/05/2020 06:56

How old would this laptop be?

With intel mate its easy to work out, if the processor is say an i5, after the i5 there is a number, and the first number after the - example i5-4300 so 4 is the year so 2014.
i5-9600 would be 2019

I've bought 2 Dell laptops from them in the last 6 months.

Both batteries held decent charge, so No complaints.

They even replaced a generic charger/adapter with a brand new original Dell one when it started playing up.

Condition was excellent for both laptops. Both had SSDs which I think is a must. I'd never go back to non- SSD

The description/detail is crucial. I wouldn't touch a laptop with cracks, deep scratches or any damage to hinges, which quite a few have.

Hardly surprising, a lot of there kit is grade C as its old business stock, and I've seen the condition of some people's machines at work!

These are sometimes ok but you get what you pay for really.

Just making people aware as yesterday people were spending £600+ on refurb grade Cs from currys. No mention of grade in description but was hidden away in details section which is hard to see on mobile devices, or people miss it. Trying to save a lot of hassle and disappointment
Good seller, I've bought from them before - one of these machines in fact. Terrible touchpads though!
These had rubbish batteries, refurb or not

All these years this never occurred to me thanks
Expensive for 6+ yo machine, should have added SSD for that price..
Not the best price or condition to be honest. There's some good deals to be had on these if you shop around,
I picked up an X250 with SSD, LTE and twin batteries with good charge, no cracks or scratches for £150

You're welcome.
Its not exact as it can be 6 months out but it gives a rough idea. The 4 digit number after the i3 , i5 , i7 like 8700 also tells you which chipset is on the motherboard to help with things like drivers for the GPU.
With Windows 7 this was useful but now with Windows 10 most GPU drivers are downloaded automatically. Yep, theres a lot in those 4 numbers lol
Paid £109 two months ago
Price keeps going up on these... before it was around £120 and you got an SSD. Now it's £165 before eBay discount (looks like another seller that increased the price to profit on a voucher). Also 'Grade 2 (click link above) Hairline cracks in palm. Worn lid & palmrest. White blemishes in screen. See images' - this sounds like a C grade: cracks in palmrest and pressure marks...

It's a still lot of computing power for the money but not a great deal. FWIW, ITZOO have some bargain/graded X260 models in - £165 inc VAT which gets you a Skylake 6th gen i5, 256GB SSD and less cosmetic issues.

They were cheaper and had SSDs before! The difference in speed between HDD and SSD on these is quite large.

No SSD, bad deal, no computer, except, a NAS, maybe, should be used without an SSD these days.
I Believe the x240 generation was the one year where thinkpad messed around with the touch pad, removing separate buttons for the left and right click... they went back to separate buttons from x250 onwards as it was so hated... Do love a thinkpad though.

I have an x1 carbon that has the merged buttons, it's mostly ok but I would definitely prefer separate buttons. Click and drag operations are particularly troublesome.

Everyone needs a ThinkPad

This is 6th gen with a decent touchpad and runs noticeably cooler than the X240 (I found anyway), will be a 2016 model - check under the battery and should have both batteries. Should run a dream with SSD and 16GB RAM. It doesn't matter for bargain section machines but ITZOO removed all discount codes now.

100% failure rate of the batteries in my brand new Lenovo laptops within 12 months of purchase. That seals it for me.
You don't have to listen to the proof I have, but I will not be purchasing a Lenove product again.

Surface pro 3 still going strong after many many years, i also have an even older lenovo laptop with a battery that if also fine, albeit probably doesnt last as long as it used to.

Upgrading my X250 which didn't massively need upgrading but hopefully with be a bit quicker for Fusion360 and Simplify3D

Maybe given that a battery is something that deteriorates over a period of time and the fact they could have been charged many, many hundreds of times, this guy may just be right. Just a thought. Perhaps he could have worded it a bit better lol

I bought one on Monday, turned up yesterday. I went with a higher grade for the extra warranty. Very fast and great condition for me. Screen isn't IPS, but at this price it's fine. Very happy!

It's not helped that the internal battery could be missing (some say that they are included) but that is usually another 24Wh battery plus the external one = 48Wh total. Without it you'd only have 24Wh total which is not a lot even if in good health.

Its a possibility, and they will certainly be degraded from new performance, but a sweeping statement that they will all be essentially dead is misleading and unless they have all been tested and proven to be naff by him/her then I'd base comments on opinion and advice rather than fact

Just looked at my old one, its a thinkpad E335 which is ancient, kids doing school work on it, battery lasts well over an hour, which considering at new it was only about 2-3 hours aint half bad.

It says 500GB HDD - why would it have an SSD fitted? Unless it’s a mistake or their inventory is so vague they ship anything out.

The internal battery sometimes is included - but it’s not guaranteed or they are removing liability by saying it’s not in case it’s dead/useless.

The condition is definitely not always better than stated - I bought before, was appalled and in previous threads others said the same.

I think part of the price rise is that Webcams are selling at a premium so people are getting laptops so they can use Teams and Zoom.

Perhaps, defo a shortage of webcams right now - though I’m sure the same company were doing the X240 with SSD for £120 after discount last time back in March/April? Last Zoom call I did from the iPad as the app works well there.

Your right. I would go for a 250 or 260. Altenatively use zoom on the ipad or even phone.

Yes, 250 and 260 have the nicer touchpads (they’re still not great). ITZOO have some X260 laptops in at a really compelling price right now - the 260 is 14nm Skylake, runs a lot cooler and faster than earlier models, all got SSDs too - I vaguely recall something about it being restricted to single channel only but won’t bother most people, it’s an ultraportable not a workstation. Best ex-lease Skylake laptop I ever used though is the HP Elitebook 820 G3, full metal case, very durable, two memory slots, great battery and a really nice glass touchpad with separate buttons.
Yeah I forgot - the 250 has the horrible track pad.
