you may want to put the price in the title
I haven't seen a Lenovo server deal on here in ages. A few years back they were more frequent than Redmi Note 5 deals are now.
This guy picked his up for 60 bucks.

V2 xeon is very old. Update bios if you buy old Intel junk. Plus waste of electricity and space.

Yes, the thinkservers are rare nowadays or inflated prices compared (TS140 and 150) I remember picking up my first for a little over £200 new IIRC May even have been less

I think theres either a software workaround in Windows 10 or a firmware update (better obviously)

There is no way to confirm
I am assuming the cold votes are because people still fear Lenovo?? This is a great deal, you cannot buy the i7 equivalent cpu for much less than this; and the case will be bomb proof.

If you cut to about 11 minutes in, you get quite a good review of the hardware.
Most sold so someone loved them.

Well you should be able to either the Intel site or Lenovo themselves. I'll look if this doesn't go too cold
No I won't despite being almost sold out, this deal is still cold. Can't say I'm amazed though

I'm not surpised, I'd get one if I didn't have two thinkservers
Not a bad price considering it has a CPU that compared to modern day quad cores and 32GB of RAM.
Positives:
4 cores 8 threads
Overclockable CPU
Lot of RAM

Negatives:
Terrible GPU
Terrible Motherboard. Although you can overclock the CPU to 4.6-5ghz (Owned them in the past), the OEM board won't survive for long.
Ram can't be used with general desktop builds since it's ECC
No real upgrade path, other than more cores (Which the motherboard won't be happy about).
Almost certainly a terrible PSU

If all you want is a budget gaming PC then it's okay, but you have to buy a GPU. Throw in a RX 570 and it's a decent, if limited, build for £350 or so. Is it a good idea to invest in such an old platform months before Ryzen 3? Probably not.
Seems it's tech that stems back from 2013

Heat from me a good buyfor the price with 32GB Ram
RAM is worth £40 or less. It's ECC.
CPU is worth £30.
Mobo is worth £50-80.
GPU is worth £40-45, although largely useless.
HDD is worth £10-20.

Total = £170-215

Only questionable things are the PSU (Will be dirt cheap OEM I imagine) and case.
Anyone ever got one (or similar spec) and run Xpenology (Synology DSM OS) on it as a NAS?

Can take 2 cpus. Still V2. See if new version of bios available. What is bios date. Otherwise these are sitting ducks for malware honeypot. Performance means nothing if it will be cooking viruses for sending your details to some botnet. Everything is connected to the Internet these days so you cannot hide.

It's a covert fan heater.
I think it's where Dyson got his inspiration from: "Take two boxes into the server room?! Not me, I just like to suck AND blow"

Yes we know James, you keep telling us.

You forgot the DVD drive and Real Windows 10 Pro 64. IMO the ram is enough 32GB, so why would you want to add more? ECC is actually more reliable (though a little slower) It's got 4 drive bays (you may need cages) 5 sata connectors. If it's a proper workstation is should be well built and easy to acess. The power supply is 610watts

No I mean REAL windows. You are talking about buying a disperate goup of parts from Ebay second hand which may or may not work. Assembling them into a machine yourself and hoping they will work. These have a 12 month warranty which covers the whole machine. Quite different.

It is real windows...

All parts will be covered for 30 days, or 2 years if bought from cex, which is actually better than this shop.

This is an average deal. Not terrible, cheaper to do yourself, old dead end platform but with good price/performance.

Cex!! Grade What? Highly dubious to buy components from! I can't imagine anything worse! A motherboard, probably the most easily damaged part of a PC! So you got it all boxed up, appears to be working but no sound, Could be anything, strip it all down. Send the motherboard back, get another one, still not working. Maybe a connector on the box, strip it down. Return case. Etc etc. They often don't check things. I imagine there's just too much stock or someone gets lazy. I've have sets of DVDs which were obviously never tested and unplayable.
Have you ever done this? You nust be joking

Cheers, I ended up using the ts140 as a normal pc rather than a server as my main reason for wanting a server was to host film and TV programmes but I now use apps for that so server was basically redundant.
