Not for the average user it isn't

Well it is. It's usually a couple of screws you remove take old one out and put new one in. And if that's too difficult local pc shops can do it. Screen can't really be changed so easily can it?

Can you buy a new i5 laptop with an SSD & full HD for this price?

They give you HD, they'll take away the SSD.

2 or 3 years ago I bought a refurbished Dell, 13.3" screen with i5 processor, 240gb SSD, 8GB RAM, fingerprint reader, usb3, slim and light Ultrabook (etc etc) for £250.
My laptop (imo) is miles better spec than the one posted, and was much cheaper years ago..

Why are laptops so expensive these days?

Unlike TVs which seem to cost less with time, even though the technology improves, laptops seem to have increased in cost big time...but not the specs!

I bought an i5 laptop 3 years ago for under £300. Now, the same model laptop is over £400 refurb!!

Price is about right for what it is... would have been far, far better if it had been an 8th gen (quad core) i5

I'm still not convinced.

The problem isn't changing the screen. The problem is getting a Full HD screen that will be compatible with the laptop. Much easier to change SSD.

Computers got stupidly cheap around that time, not entirely sure why but not only was ram and components fairly cheap I suspect manufacturers had over built and had stockpiles to clear because laptops and desktops weren't selling as tablet and phones were so popular. I suspect now they make as demand dictates and so don't have huge stockpiles that need clearing.

I think those days of i5 laptops and desktops for around £250 to £300 have gone for good or at least until manfucturers start to over stock again.

I got this laptop for my aunt recently, she won't care about the screen resolution and is happy. Performance was good except for the worst laptop speaker ever - (note it's 1 mono speaker!) on the bottom of the laptop. Sound is about as good as low quality smart phone.

Not much preinstalled bloat and what there was is easy to remove. You end up with a pretty much default Win10 installation.

I will be buying my son a laptop this year he web surfs and plays games from Steam I'm not sure how graphic intensive the games are but I don't think he plays the latest graphic rich games, could anyone point me in the direction of a good brand to buy,I would be hoping to spend £400 but less if possible, and maybe a little more if I have to
