£422.99 are they completely insane? Dual core, out of date, horrendous build quality, rubbish panel. Nope don't do it.
7th gen cpu and no backlit keyboard is disappointing at that price point to be fair... And a dvd drive? In 2020? 😁 I dont think I would, much better deals can be haf I reckon

Where!??

Where!??

Any 8th gen Intel will be better. And yes, i5 8th gen > i7 7th gen.
Look for 8250u / 8265u here - lots of deals

Search for 'laptop' in the search box and you will see at leasta dozen on the first couple of pages. I paid not much more for a dell xps 15 with better specs a year or so ago.

Jump from 7gen to 8gen was a funny one as all 7xxx i5s become 8xxx i3 processors and all 8xxx i5s are only few % slower than 7gen i7s

Yep. The quad core i5 8250U batters this i7 7500U.

This is only a dual core part, looks very dated these days. The old Ryzen 2500U also far superior in many budget laptops.

Why is this hot? That price tag is outrageous
