This is fine for browsing, word processing and watching videos.

It's a dreadful CPU, but it might be ok as the rest of the hardware is alright - at least this one has an SSD. But the chip is a dual-core hybrid that's closer to a single-core in some aspects (as it only has one FP unit). People complain that 'Celeron and Atom is slow', this might make you rethink the meaning of 'slow'.

Windows 10 can be found 'cheap' many places but this machine may really struggle depending on what you do.

Any of the recent ex-lease machines posted here would be fine and will run rings round this. Something like this would have been my suggestion:

Office and browsing? The 8gb RAM and 256gb SSD will more than compensate for the relatively slow processor.
I have a 11 year old core 2 duo PC with 4gb RAM and a SSD and it breezes through Chrome with loads of tabs open and Office 365 with Outlook and Excel open. This laptop has double the RAM my desktop has so you'll be fine. It's a real bargain for the money.

What do you mean?
Once you have Windows on the machine it should be running without any issues
Will see
Doesn't look to be dual band WiFi which is a shame
he means note pad , if you want something just to online shop and social media then duel core is probably fine , 8gb of ddr4 and an ssd should make it feel snappy but any heavy programs will struggle

They’ve put the date back on me once already, so don’t expect it to be sent on the 7th September. I was getting my on the 26th of Aug. Didn’t happen

Horrible machine, can you spare more funds? Let's say £340.

Her mum's budget would be £300 max.
I would have gone for a refurbished Dell Latitude myself but her mum wants a new laptop with warranty.
I have the AMD A6 in an HP laptop, probably 2 years old now ...works fine for me,it's never frozen, it even starts up pretty quick and it only had a normal 1TB hardrive ....everyday stuff, email, browsing, downloading, photos, printing, ripping and loading up the mp3 player works fine.....yes there's better ,you get what you pay for,it's ok for everyday use...depends what you want it for.

I bought two refurb HP 650 G2 i5 4GB. Paid 170 each, added SSD128 and 4GB of RAM, third year, rock-solid, both boys happy. Me too, two laptops and two Samsung S7 phones for a fraction of price, all-digital toys under family control from Microsoft, no dodgy sites or viruses. I sleep well, they sleep well. Only saying😁

Yes, but the difference is, I'd still have a Core 2 Duo (a true dual-core) over an AMD A6 and the C2D is probably still faster. You can only do so much with a fast SSD and lots of RAM - the CPU is a massive bottleneck and isn't even that power efficient either. That said, this is probably the cheapest 'brand new' machine you can buy, it's just a shame the CPU is going to seriously hamper it now and in the long-term. Also, they've obviously saved on cost by not including an OS.
I have a laptop with this processor and it is awful, really slow. As already stated an older core 2 duo from years ago is faster. I would not buy it again.

It is better than mobile C2D, go have a look.
notebookcheck.net/AMD…tml

It is NOT MUCH better - It is all 'crawling about in a ditch' level of processing.

Any modem webpage with embedded video and and animated adverts is enough to slow this sluggard down.
Youtube with adblock and 720p should be okay

I know it probably is. It’s a figure of speech and I’d still prefer a Core 2 Duo as it’s a legendary chip, the AMD A6 and it’s variants are just awful - even if it is or isn’t quicker, this isn’t a big achievement, it’s a 12 year old chip...
If someone wants a NEW laptop, then yes. It will be ok for browsing etc.

Otherwise as someone else posted above, a refurb Lenovo Thinkpad from Ebay for £200 or less with i5- 5200u for example is 10 times better.

this amd cpu is 28nm (battery life will be crap)
i5-5200u is 14nm.
CPU sux deeply
Hey guys, it’s this price for a reason , if you can find a faster one at same price please let us know
I really wouldn't. As others say, I'd look at a refurb with a 12mth wty instead or save a bit more up.

Or for basics like browsing and basic office tasks get a chromebook.

Anyone know what this processor is the equivalent too in terms of Intel?
Love this site, was thinking about this as it was 494+ hot and looked decent specs, but read the comments and you wonder how it got so hot. I know it's only £200, but really appreciate everyone's comments as a slow processor is just not what I need and the £200 seems better invested elsewhere.
The question is....to what extent will the SSD mitigate the poor processor. This should be usable for lite office, browsing and emails...
You can buy asus £299 i3 laptop from Amazon. Tried to post it but cant
Sorry - the processor makes this cold as the AMD A series processors struggle with even basic stuff like browsing, word processing etc. We've got two laptops in this house, both with SSD, 4GB and Windows 10. In all other respects the spec is good - but the processor is a fundamental issue.
Sluggish, unless running Windows 3.1 or similar 16-bit OS
would like to see how to would run with puppy Linux. I can't say for sure but I think it would be perfectly acceptable.

Can anybody brief this laptop Does Not come with any Operating System .is it still worth that money ?thank you in advance

If I absolutely had to (gun to my head) get an AMD A-series it would have to be one of the quad-cores (still only 2x FP units) like the A10-8700P but I’d probably still choose an Intel Celeron or Pentium Silver over this. It’s a really bad CPU design. It’s so bad that I almost think they were hustling Intel by releasing such a steaming pile of crap so that when they released Zen, Intel literally didn’t expect it because they didn’t think AMD was capable - and now look.

These AMD A-series are cheap because no one wanted them before Zen and now, no one wants them after Zen. It’s like a fire sale. Slow chips that run hot with poor battery life - what’s not to like
There are 100s of dirrerent flavours of Linux, dump Windows and use Linux with all free open source software, more secure, lightweight and less resource hungry

Specs are vague though, it seems to be an i3-7100U but references 8th gen too. It’s cheap as it’s EOL. Also you’re losing half the RAM, getting a slow hard disk and by the looks of it, a terrible display as they’ve described it as ‘15.6” LED’ - no other USPs to describe it! The discrete 940MX GPU is interesting as it’ll handle eSports stuff. Personally I think I’d skip this one too. You can find the Ryzen 5 2500U with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD and full HD display for around £300-330 if lucky - usually the Lenovo V330.

Sigh, yet another seller from Guang Dong with limited sales record. Find a UK supplier and this might be worth talking about.
