I've got my Lenovo W541 non-ips and my work Dell 5580 with IPS next to one another and in my opinion the difference is huge. Much prefer working on the IPS, everything seems clearer and not as tiring on my old eyes.

HEAT given for the rest of the specs and price though.

TN panel, but is quite cheap
Decent offer but TN screen is a no no for me too - waiting for BF offer

Why is it a no no for you? I will say IPS panels usually give better viewing angles and colour accuracy, but TN panels offer better performance (higher refresh rates and faster response times) so TN's aren't as bad as people make them out to be.

Depends on the TN panel, most of the panels on these laptops have such bad viewing angles that I have to say refresh rate is virtually irrelevant
Because of all of your comments hating TN panels I went for HP Laptop from Currys for 499 to see if it's that much better 😜

If you can find a like for like replacement screen and aren't squeamish about replacing things, add 60 quid to the price for that sort of business.

Panelook isn't flawless but gives you an outline of possible compatible IPS and VA models.
