Consider this is sold as a non gaming machine, don't underestimate the 3400g Apu, it's more than capable to handle a lot of games than you would expect, check it out on YouTube or other reviews.

I have built a m-itx machine with this exact Apu for casual gaming and watching movies, amazing what it can do and consumes very little power.

Good price op

Can you add a GPU to make it into a gaming PC?

Need to check the psu to see the power and cables it has. Should be able to use a 750ti 1050ti 1650 but not sure if anything more power hungry snd thetrfore cheaper per frame.

My tip is buy 2nd hand dell or hp workstations with 4c8t intel xeons ( same as i7 ) as they have beefy psus.

If you search HUKD for the same model I believe people discussed the same question. The problem I think is the power supply, its only 180w so it would struggle to run a dedicated graphics card as well

Yup. Very limited power supply on this means limited upgrade potential + you'd be paying for integrated graphics you're not using.

This one is a (small) desktop rather than a laptop, so you'd need a screen, keyboard etc. But if you hooked it up properly it would certainly do a decent job on schoolwork and those two games. (what does he play them on at the moment? Might be able to offer a comparison.)

It is a desktop. You need a keuboard and mouse and monitor. But I think a modern ryzen 5 integrated graphics laptop should be ok for the gpu forthose games. Minecraft 100pc. It runs on anything. Foetnite ... Recommend you search on youtube when find the processor name for the laptop eand fortnite benchmark. There are ryzen 3 5 and 7 laptops and think 5 is the sweet spot.
hi thanks for the replay, he plays them both on x box one s

Upgrade the RAM on this and you're set.
Hi I am looking for desktop/laptop for moderate video editing. Will this computer do? Can anybody recommend anything below 600 for that purpose pls.

Anybody knows which motherboard comes with this?
This one or a 2nd hand tower server is my thought for work purposes.. hmm
Could this run dual monitors okay?
I'm just after desktop or laptop to run cities skylines and total war and do normal computery things but needs non integrated graphics card otherwise would have considered for this I have lenevo ideapad 320s can anyone help me thanks
Hi again, I'm not good with pcs , is there a good pc gaming deal which will will play the game Fortnite which I don't have to add, remove anything and if so I only have wifi upstairs , will this make a diffence

Would the Lenovo be a good upgrade for him in terms of graphics?
HenryMurphy23/05/2020 11:01

In theory, yes, but the motherboard has 1x VGA and 1x HDMI. VGA is good up to 1080p (1920x1080) before you'd start to get a drop in quality beyond that point.

This PC is a relatively good deal. Fortnite isn't heavy on graphics, so the integrated processor will be fine.

Since this PC doesn't have wireless, you'd have to get yourself a USB wireless adapter which are not expensive.

You've only got an HDMI 1.4 and a VGA out. I've never tried, but instinctively I feel that using the VGA out for a second monitor is not going to be a fun time. A quick Google wasn't particular helpful in that regard.

I think someone tracked down the exact model on the other thread, but I'd be surprised if it weren't a proprietary solution based on the A320 chipset.

In which case this is certainly as good for gaming, possibly better -- and of course much better for schoolwork. You'll want to pair it with a 1080P ("Full HD") monitor. 60Hz would be fine. Depending on the exact setup you might be able to reuse a TV.

Of course the alternative would be to buy a laptop with a built in screen, but those justifiably command a price premium.

Yes, this will play Fortnite pretty well, over 60FPS at 1080P medium. You'll need a monitor, keyboard and a USB WiFi adapter or equivalent though (as I believe this doesn't have built in wifi). [Edit: And a mouse!]

Any i5 and a modest GPU is fine for Skylines. It is mostly RAM intensive so go for 16GB.

Agreed. Though you might want to invest in a better monitor (24 or 27" 1080p) in order to feel the difference. You can get a decent one on sale for £100-120, or cheaper on the second hand market.

But you don't know what processor he has? All it says is i3

For the money I'd just buy a 1050ti to stick in. Would do better than another quad core with an apu. For comparison

gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com…440

Only go with this system if you play basic esports. Quad core is dying now with newer games starting to use the multi core goodness. Id future proof with at least the 1600af of you can find one cheap enough. Even gho ots getting beaten in the benchmarks right now thatll change in a year or two

No, I don't know precisely which processor Optiplex 7010, 790 and 390 are all 6-7 years old. Whatever is in it, this one will be comfortably better.

Per above I'm not a fan of buying this and adding a 1050Ti due to the limited power budget. Yes a 1050Ti is clearly better than Vega 11 but if you're going to go down that route you'd be better off trying to find something with a better base like (as you say) a 1600AF.

I agree, this is good for schoolwork, YouTube/Netflix, and the odd bit of gaming (Fortnite and Minecraft). If you want to play AAA titles you'll need to spend a bit more and get a better system.

Have you considered using power lines? Depending on your speeds, they would likely be a better option than relying on WiFi.
501MHZ23/05/2020 12:41

Hi James, interesting tip, where can I find these? Thanks

I get them on ebay. If you know a bit about computers then get the cheapest and add more ram and better cpu and hard drive. Others you just need to replace the gpu.

So depending on your budget I go for
Hp z420 (i have a youtube video on that) which is a 2nd gen i7 equivalent (still great for gaming with better gpu and has 600w psu witj 2 x 6 pin)

Hp z400 is older and can get 1st gen i7 / xeon 6c12 x5670 x5675 x5660 cpus for 10 to 20 quid!

Has 475w psu with 1 6 pin but can use an adapter from molex or sata cables to get 2 x 6pin or 1x8 pin for around 6 quid

Also have used dell 3500 and 5500 and 7500 for those 6v12t xeons.

Got my eye on nect one up

Dell t5610 and t7610 has 2x 2nd gen xeons!

I will post my youtube video.

Sorry it has music. Some don't like that!

For 200 you could get a 4c8t xeon with 8 to 16gb ram but prices might be more now.

Then add 2nd hand amd rx 470 570 480 580. 470 best if can find 1 x 6 pin.

6c12t 2nd gen i7 / xeon - the processor I am looking to upgrade to

if you want windows... see my other video

cpubenchmark.net/sin…ect
this is the easiest website to use

put your current cpu in there and add to compare
and then the ryzen 5 3400g

there are two scores
single core (old games mainly but also some ubisoft titles still like it - but the world is changing as consoles have made developers focus more on multi core performance
and total benchmark
this compares i7 6th gen with this and mine
cpubenchmark.net/com…vs8

similar single core and multi core in the grand scheme of things
(both higher than mine! only game i had issues with was kingdom come deliverance)

obviously if you're doing video editing then might matter more
fadsarmy23/05/2020 07:22

Well for about £30 more you can get this from Itzoo
