My Mam was after a sub £250 laptop for internet surfing and i have been keeping an eye out for a few days on this at £249 was shocked to see it reduced by £20 this morning to £229 so went for it. I think they are decent specs for under £230. Free delivery to a Tesco store or £3 postage

Haha its been a long day

lenovo's customer service is based in Swindon... Just putting it out there

We've been using Thinkpads from way back when they were made by IBM and latterly the Lenovo versions and I hadn't a clue where their customer service centre was located as not once have we had reason to use them.

Good find OP, heat from me.

Got one. Replacing HDD with SSD is quite tricky but made one hell of a difference especially when all the bloat ware was removed with clean OS install. Please note max SSD upgrade is 120gb.

Good info, thanks, I've ordered for a friend

This isn't much faster than a 5 year old first gen i3, however there's a lot of energy saving been made in the CPU design, so battery life will be a lot better.

Which ssd will fit this model, thanks

On the specs on the Lenovo website it said so. Can't find the page now.

I stuck this one in .. hotukdeals.com/dea…403

So to fit SSD you have to remove all screws out the bottom then pull the keyboard out the front and remove three screws (one is under void warranty sticker). Pull out the DVD drive and it should all come apart. Took me hours to figure that out. Some of the plastic clasps snapped but it really doesn't matter. Solid as a rock when a screwed back together.

Not Full HD though.

Then make a bootable Windows 10 USB drive then reinstall with that. It will boot in about 3 seconds.

There is no limit. Any SATA 3 (6Gb/S) SSD is fine.

Maybe you are right. 120GB is ample for my in laws. It's got over 90GB free space.

And that is fine, but SSDs are relatively cheap so why compromise given one can fill 90GB very quickly?

Windoze 10 - good grief...

Disappointing specified battery "3 hrs" aside, the CPU is a welcome if incremental step up from the previous years i3 4005U, especially so the i3 5005U's HD5500 integrated graphics part. Not much to complain about at that price! If someone can find a Skylake i3 CPU deal at that price, let me know! Hot!

Don't get defensive, dear. Merely a question... You cite to change the hard drive to a SSD to make it faster but solely to web browse. Makes no sense whatsoever.

It was about £18 and makes it perform better so it was a no brainer. Everyone knows SSD improves performance.

Yes but it serves zero purpose in this instance given the use is merely for web browsing. The pre-installed 500gb would have sufficed, no?
