How was the keyboard otherwise? These new laptops all seem to come with pathetic keyboards.

never really understood what is the backlit is really for on a keyboard...? I do not watch my keyboard.
What was the battery life on yours? I fall love with this little device.

it was fine, i voted hot because this. great display and generally you wont get better for the price and this new a processor

I want one, anyone got any better ideas? My tablet has just about packed in so maybe next month....

I'm tempted by the Toshiba Chromebook 2, but I really want Windows for Adobe software (only to apply touch-ups to photos / graphics while I'm away). Therefore, this could work well.

What should I go for? 1080p is the biggest priority. Budget is ~£1,000, but the lower the price the better.

The Macbook Pro is £999, I caved in at the weekend. I'd looked at everything else but the 3 year Warranty from John Lewis will give me a rest from weighing up pros and cons until 2018.
And its fabulous, it is after all a laptop that still wants to be a laptop and nothing else. The new track pad makes me smile every time i use it, the keyboard is perfect and backlit, the screen is a photographers dream. MagSafe, speak to type that works without any training at all, i could go on.......

Lenovo will never see a single penny from me after the "superfish adware" debacle.

Deal voted cold purely down to this companies (lack of) ethics.

Its a light so like other lights its purpose is to help you see in the dark. If you are above a certain age your night time vision usually deteriorates so in low lighting you can't read the keyboard letterings. So it's a very practical solution not a bling thing.

this has a backlit keyboard, I tested it in the store.

I'm on the verge of buying a Surface Pro, so I was intrigued by this

not the same machine, this is lenovo yoga 3 11 and in the reviews its yoga 3 pro which is a 13 inch ultrabook

I don't see a 10-15" screen as my dream screen size ( being a photographer and IT pro) however an ultrabook with few full sized functioning usb ( including usb3) and full size SD card reader was my dream with around 1kg ( to leave some room for my camera gear ) with some cpu power, memory and reasonably priced. The ability to run through and backup my RAW pictures to the external 1tb SSD on USB3 without too many wires ( failed to do on dv8p as well as on t100 )
1080p IPS screen and microHDMI is also some "good to have" feature ( not to mention 6-8 hour battery life ), to connect it up to my 32" 1440p screen ( or to any other screen )
Now that's what a photographer is dreaming about, as a road warrior.

XPS13?

I have been looking at that one too, very decent device for 1 and only device but I wanted to stay on budget of £500ish. Have a decent i7 desktop for proper photo/video editing and power hungry stuff, and don't see a justification to spend another £250+ for what it offers.

hassan14pk

It didn't have a backlit keyboard when I checked it in store, there's no keyboard backlight shortcut on the keyboard and several reviews have noted the lack of backlight unless there's been a revision of it - some of the other Yoga models do but the Yoga 3 11 definitely didn't.

updated the post, Amazon selling it for much cheaper £521.83 now

Thanks for posting this deal. I'm very tempted by it as I'm looking for a light (cheap-ish) machine for 3 months travelling. Can't really afford any Apple hardware and have quite a bit of Amazon credit to use so this seems perfect.

I have this ultrabook for about 2 weeks now, and I'm seriously impressed. Typing this message right now on this, while on hdmi a 32" screen is connected ( on the back of it has a usb3 hub with wireless gaming mouse, headset, webcam )

if you are going backpacking ( light ) you'll love it. I've just spent 4 day in Barcelona with missus and in my backpack I had this ultrabook, dslr with 3 lenses, tripod and clothes covered all under 10kg.

Thanks for the extra info. You’ve just helped me make my decision to order it off Amazon.

It should arrive on Weds and will be great for my trip. My other machine is a 15.6” MSI gaming laptop which is way too big to fit in a backpack.

This has also saved me quite a bit over my other choice, the MacBook Air. Plus this looks to have a better screen.

I look forward to setting it up.

Thanks again!

I hope you will enjoy your new device as well as your trip.

+1: not sure where are you going to, when I have had a long trip ( 4 weeks ) in thailand backed up all my pictures once on an external hdd, as well as to a recently introduced amazon cloud drive ( over 100gb ). This is not a dropbox like solution where you have a copy locally - unlimited amount of full size pictures can be uploaded and will stay there. Amazon prime membership required for this.

Thanks! I’ve got about 50GB on Dropbox but Amazon sound like they have a better solution. I’m going to SE Asia too so hope to get some great pics.
