Just a headsup this was available for £349 with i3-6100u processor with 10% cashback back in January. *insert time machine joke*

I'm not too knowledgable on processors. Can anyone give me some good info on the Intel Pentium 4405U Processor? Is it worth it for this price?

Yep quiet good, a core i3 would be more favourable but this is a good one, plus quicker than an A9 equivalent.

It's pretty crummy unfortunately.

Pretty good laptop, I had picked it up when it was on HUKD few months back at £400! Nice quick laptop with touchscreen, a great windows-macbook lookalike and very strong build quality.

Thanks for the heads up - it's good to know this information as it reveals the true value of the deal on offer.

Good deal and adding heat, but not a scorcher that warrants a snap purchase. I'd be looking for this to get closer to the £325 mark to be a potential impulse buy.

Not too bad actually, similar to entry level 5th gen i3. Should be very good for general computing, but not so much for modern gaming.

Not too bad for sure. Probably basic use mostly. Have some heat!

Thanks. Would be looking to use it for browsing internet and using word so nothing too strenuous

It's 2.1GHz dual core with HT so not much different from a Skylake i3 and some Skylake i3 have a lower clock speed but have better features in other areas.

Bit like someone asking if a Golf GTD is fast and someone saying no its a bit crummy. Yes, next to an m5 or s7 it is, but like this CPU is probably sufficient for most.

Terrible cpu.

Don't touch this !

There are a lot of boy racers on the computer deals.

Do NOT buy this.
For this price you can definitely buy a decent laptop with an i3 at least, which is MILES ahead of the Pentium.
IMO, the Pentium and Atom shouldn't even be put in laptops as they are a recipe for disaster. They just can't handle the OS.

A little unrelated, but does anyone have a link to a chart where the processor generations are compared? For example, I keep hearing a newer generation i3 is better than an older i5, but it would be nice to compare them all to see the differences. It does seem that clock speeds no longer dictate the CPU performance.

This pentium processor is significantly better than the older atom based ones, as it's built on the skylake platform, as were the core I series of the same vintage.

Therefore, your comment is null and void.

BTW, I have owned a laptop with a quad core atom based Pentium n3540 and it handled Windows fine. It even ran Lightroom OK for photo editing.

Just because it's a Skylake CPU, doesn't make it comparable to i series CPUs. I have used many newer and older Pentiums and Atoms on laptops and they all have has issues when completing normal tasks such as internet browsing or file handling.

However, Pentium CPUs for desktops are acceptable.

Of course they are comparable. Everything is comparable. This processor shares the same architecture as an i3-6100u, but with its cores clocked 0.2ghz slower, and with 2MB cache rather than 4MB, and HD510 graphics rather than HD520.

If you can't run Windows 10 smoothly on a processor with a near 3000 passmark score, then there's something wrong with your windows installation!

I'm not saying the spec on this thing is world beating, but web browsing and file handling (?) won't pose any problems.

Well Intel disagree with you as their comparison chart shows:
https://ark.intel.com/compare/91157,89611

The GPU is much weaker, it lacks AVX 2.0 support and the L2 cache is 2 versus 3GB but it also has a 5% higher clock speed than the i3 in the comparison above so for general everyday usage they will perform very closely.
Your perception of Pentiums is outdated as they now support HT and the current generation are clocked up to 2.3GHz.

Hmm. It seems the new Pentiums have hyperthreading so perhaps this model is alright.
My comment was referring to pre-2017 Pentiums and Atoms which are still subpar compared to their i-series counterparts.

NEW price with discount code

I don't have the same knowledge base as previous posters regarding processor specifics so can't comment on this regard

Bought this end of last year around same price when subject of previous HUKD deal. Not used for anything too demanding but extremely happy with it. It won't be for all but for general use I'd highly recommend it. Only thing I found after few months use is I fancied a bit more storage. Had a 240GB SSD in an older laptop so installed it last week. Used Macrium and AOMEI free programs to clone & sort partitions. Worked a treat.

CPU is fine for the price and this machine's likely use.

Some people have confused Pentium with something from 10 years ago...

The Pentium 4405U with HT was released in Q3'15 so you are well behind the times.

Can anyone find this on the Lenovo website ?

I've no idea what model number it is and Live Chat with PC World they did not know either.

Probably either superseded or a PCW exclusive variant so you can't compare prices.
