Looking to replace my aging and slow Lenovo Ultrabook and toying between a Gaming Laptop for Sheer performance or the Aesthetics such as this Hybrid with a fantastic Screen..

Use it for work only, Photoshop, Dxo, Lightroom so Display/Resolution and Clarity is a must for me. Not fussed on Portability as it mainly sits on my desk anyhow.

Specs Include
13.3-inch QHD+ touchscreen 3800x1200
Intel Core i7-6500U
8GB DDR3 memory/256GB SSD
Up to 9 hours of battery life
Windows 10
Signature Edition
Intel HD 520 Graphics
Colour SIlver

Also Microsoft state it includes a $50 Microsoft Gift Card, whether that's in same denomination in UK £s I don't know but have sent Message to ask..

Seen it was a slightly lower price at JL some weeks back, price at moment on MS Store including MS gift Card puts it at almost the same price but this one is Silver in Colour according to Specs so slightly better colour than the champagne one at JL.

If there is a better alternative I would really appreciate Some input and examples for those that own them.

The surface book offer looks tempting but seems new revised model imminent, google shows no concrete dates and cant really hold out much longer. As nothing worse than laptop slowly to halt in middle of an edit.

Thanks

I'd wait for 7th gen cpu quite a big step up

I would say its a worthy upgrade an i5 7200u is the same performance as a i7 6500u

I agree. An extra 15% on both the cpu and gpu is a nice bump. Not game changing but nice regardless.

Agree
15% on a mobile cpu/gpu will never go wrong.
Its not like 15% on a 6700K which is powerfull enough for most to begin with.

I think this is a good deal. Not entirely sure why this is cold...

I'd expect a dedicated graphics card at this price point. You're basically paying double for a 3K screen and more portability, as there have been lots of i7 laptop deals in the £400-£500 range.

heat from me. great price. its never gonna have a dedicated gpu it's an ultrabook! do you find a discreet gpu in any 13"macs at £1xxx? no didn't think so.

Is this the one with Wacom stylus digitiser? If so, that is what the extra money is for, a great Photoshop graphics machine, not really a gaming machine though

Been waiting for the new Kabylake 1050ti laptops to arrive at JL still nothing, but i noticed this for £849.99 someone may be interested. Might be worth a separate post?

johnlewis.com/len…333

I bought one of these from John Lewis when they had it for £900. I sent it back.
It's a reasonably decent machine but I never used it in tablet mode because it's just too thick and heavy for that so the 360 fold is not worth paying for and a good thin laptop will suffice.
What killed it for me though was the touchpad. It's awful. Had to disable 2 finger mode as it kept zooming in and out when I was using it as if I had a second finger on the touchpad (I didn't before anyone asks). Also couldn't set separate pressure for tap to click so it tends to click randomly. using the bottom edge 'buttons' causes the mouse to move fractionally when you click so that messes up as well.
Don't see any reason why the update CPU models would be any different.
Seriously why is it so hard to get a good touchpad. I have plenty of cheaper laptops that do this right.

Are you sure about this. Only the graphics side has been updated

It's about 15% on cpu and gpu, benchmarks put the core i5 7200u around the same as the core i7 6500u

I'm so confused- I thought an i7 would be better than an i5? I keep changing my mind from this laptop and the Lenovo yoga 900s which has a M7-6Y75 processor but I don't know whether it's good or not. Confuseddddd

I have gone for this as the i7 is a much stronger processor than the M7.

I am yet to get it, but I wasn't willing to risk the under performance issues that people have noted on the m7's

4420 for the i7
4770 for the i5. so about 6.7% increase overal according to cpubenchmark.net

If you need a laptop now, pointless waiting for the 7th gen intels.

Yes an i5 can be better than an i7 .. you have to look at the model number and features
