any view on which is better
Jane
The one you picked is probably better, but you over paid for it (It's £320 now on Tesco and even that isn't a bargain for what you're getting).
Thank you for the feedback... not a 100 per cent sure about the price will check with Tesco and return it if they will not refund any difference
I don't know much about laptops and bought it based on recommendations here.
If you think it is overpriced could you recommend something better for the same price or less?
Thanks jane
So its has a i5 full hd and a 1060 ??
Who is the laptop for?
What are they going to use it for?
Will they take it out of the house or not?
What's your budget, roughly?
What are the things most important to you about the laptop (Great battery life? Good screen? Starts up quickly?)
The lap top is for me. I use it for email, writing reports, internet searches, watching films etc but no real gaming, just puzzles etc.
Mainly I use it in the house and only occasionally outside so battery life is not that important...
I was hoping to get something around £350ish
Most important is reliability, as reports usually have to have a quick turn around, nicely spaced keyboard as I touch type, good storage ...have started to research family history and need to store documents
Thank you for your help
Jane
Will be comparing these to the one you got at Tesco, so when I say "Faster" etc it means in relation to that.
Few options for you:
1. pcworld.co.uk/gbu…tml
Has the same CPU. 8GB RAM. 1TB Hard drive (1 TB = 1,000 GB). Has a 1080p screen vs 768p. £299 (Can be cheaper using FluBit + 8% top cash back, which ends tonight. The cashback may be renewed tomorrow, not sure. But this will be around £270-280 after all that)
Poor battery though.
2. pcworld.co.uk/gbu…tml
Slower CPU (By about 10%). 4GB Ram. 1TB Hard drive. 1080p screen. IPS panel, which means nice colours. £299 (Again, use Flubit + Topcashback to get it around £270-280)
3.technoworld.com/dea…-10
Slower CPU (By about 20-30%). 4GB Ram. 256GB SSD. 1080p screen. £289.
The CPU may be slower, but the SSD will make up for a lot of this. The issue with that is it doesn't give you too much storage for your family history stuff. I'm not sure how much space that would realistically take though.
4. johnlewis.com/del…e6e
Everyone was going crazy for this earlier. i7, so around 15-20% faster. 8GB Ram. 1TB storage. 1080p screen. £449
Install the Flubit app and it lets you pick "create cheaper price for me" (Or use Flubit website). It then gives you £438 or so.
Then use Topcashback and you'll get 8% cashback = £402. A little over your budget, but if you like big screens and a quick CPU then this is for you.
5. amazon.co.uk/s/r…031
Warehouse deals! If you're patient and keep an eye out you can usually find some really cheap stuff here. I've got £600-700 laptops for £200~. The issue here is that you don't get a warranty and the item may come damaged. If it does you're unhappy you can always return it for free within 30 days.
All of the laptops I've picked are 1080p, which makes doing office work a lot easier and more pleasant to do. The one you got from Tesco is 760p, so the screens are around 50% better.
I'd return the laptop you got and get one of these. I'll keep an eye out if I see anything good. Few of these I got from posters on here, so cheers to them.
I sent you a reply but it's "Up for inspection"
They just want it to browse the Internet, book holidays, they print a few pics of the baby but not bothered about high quality, that's about it really, is this one good for that?
Thanks Jules
Cheers Salfordgirl, you have defintely helped me.
This is also really good too

But slightly over your budget.
This is amazing ...i don't know how to thank you...I think I will get the first one, it seems to have all the features, apart from the poor battery four hours and is a very reasonable price... cheaper than the Tesco one.
Re no. 4 I did look at this when it came up but by the time I got my act together it was oos..although not now... however I don't think for me I will gain v much for the extra money.
I live in e. London if you are ever around I definitely owe you a drink or two
Thanks again jane
That one might be hard to find, the second one is a good bet too if it's out of stock.
Well I thought I was sorted... but not available in any stores within about 100 miles of me and not available for home delivery...oos???
Well bed now but will look at the others tomorrow
Thanks again jane
Get a full HD screen that's all I'll say.
Should have done another 5 minutes of research. It's a poor deal compared to any of those Salford mentions, though I'd skip the technoworld one, that seems shady.

Try find a laptop with an i type CPU
Try find a laptop with a 1080 screen
Try find a laptop with an IPS panel, which makes the screen look nicer
Other than that, you can buy almost any laptop to use for homework and minecraft
