It is SSHD Hybrid and not SSD just in case you didn't know.

I understand that SSD = Solid State Drive which is the fastest.
SSHD = Solid State Hybrid Drive which is a traditional hard drive with a small solid state drive attached which is not as fast as SSD.
Thats my best effort of explaining it,no doubt some techie will give you the full low down ;-)

SSD is a solid state drive, they're much faster than a traditional hard-drive so OS and programs etc. can be loaded much quicker.

This deal has a SSHD, a hybrid between a hard-drive and a SSD. Essentially a 1TB HDD with an 8GB SSD integrated. you don't get the full speed benefits of a SSD here but you get some speed increases as the SSD part automatically caches the most used files to speed up the time it takes to load them.

Could actually replace the drive with a pure SSD if desired which would be blazing fast

I'm not saying this is a bad deal, before anyone starts - but don't be blinded by the i5. It's a low end ULV one, which will help with battery life, but it's performance is on par with a E8400. This is a midrange desktop chip that was released over 7 years ago.

It seems like a good buy for the price though

SSD = replacement hard drive that is much quicker than a traditional mechanical hard disk drive (HDD). Only downside is the cost of SSD which is much higher per storage unit than traditional HDD. The halfway house is the SSHD that attempts to combine the benefit of greater speed with affordable storage capacity.

Having a decent dedicated graphics card should help though? Most laptop processors are poorer than desktop equivalents

What'd you class to be a decent processor in a laptop?

The casing on the Z50 put me off buying this at PC World. I tested out the floor model in-store and it feels cheap. The keyboard seems to really flex.

...But it was around £600 when I looked.

That's the way the market has gone in using ULV CPUs even in 15" laptops and not just ultrabooks. So this is the new normal for those blind to current market trends.

Well that's relative.

If you're using this for browsing, word and other desktop duties, there is nothing inherently wrong with the ULV chips Intel makes. People just have a tendency to lump all of the i5 chips together when they see them in laptops, but their performance can vary greatly.
If you need more horsepower though, then Intel do a range of non ULV chips that have more power. It's just a case of buying what you need / within your budget.

I only mention this as a friend recently purchased a laptop with the same chip in (different brand though). He was dumbfounded that the i5 in it was slower than a Intel Pentium G3258, even when run at stock.

Again: I'm not saying this is a bad deal, it's not. Just be aware that the term 'i5' isn't an indication of power.

Honestly if you're in the market for a laptop around this price you'll be hard presssed to find a better deal currently. Reasoning behind this is

FullHD Screen - Generally a premium feature, it may not be the best screen but it's a higher resolution which on this size of laptop is nice to allow you to do work more easily.
SSHD - as already discussed.
i5 - Reasonable specification i5. Nothing amazing but it's not going to wind you up being slow
Decent level of RAM - means you wont have to add more later.
Dedicated graphics - very low end gaming should be possible but not to any great level above and beyond the graphics that would be on the processor.

Looks like sold out for home delivery and i dont think voucher codes work for reserve & collect.

Would this be any good for a laptop to play WoW on?

how to pay online? cant get to that option and in order to apply discount code

To a basic level it will be playable.

youtube.com/wat…4ww
Bare in mind that this video is at a lower resolution (720) rather than the full resolution this laptop can display so take from that video what you will.

youtube.com/wat…7MI
This is what to expect at best with the display set to full HD. However that is on slightly more powerful specs but the same graphics card so gives an idea what you could expect. Overall it will be somewhere between those 2 videos.

If you want gaming I'd suggest you look to add another £100 to the budget to get something a bit more powerful because this isn't a machine for gaming.

Think this can be expired

Damn it - been wondering about this for ages. The one day I check late and miss and off and its sold out.

LOL

Gruff666

Would this be any good for a laptop to play WoW on?

No.

Maybe it would play on the lowest settings but the 820m is a very basic entry level card.

I have this exact laptop, and find it good for general purpose uses, and a bit of very light gaming.

One thing that grinds my gears, is that some graphics look almost blurred on the screen. Like a message window may pop up, and I feel like I have something in my eye because it's so blurry compared to the rest of the pin sharp graphics.

Might just be mine though...

If you want to know how the 820m will stand up to some games click this link and go to 253.

These home user Lenovos are not great. I picked up a business ultrabook X240 off ebay for £300 the other day, build quality is far better than these machines, the plastic is very brittle. Take them apart a few times and things start snapping.

can the code be used for store collection?

unfortunately not, just delivered.

dreamz

It's basically a really faster better version of harddrive... So it does all the stuff a hard drive does but faster. Anything saved on the ssd will load up much faster i.e windows will load up quicker if saved on ssd

Not really, still in stock in Southport and Barrow and probably elsewhere if I tried further afield

820m is so weak, there is no point in it compared to just having iGPU (haswell and above).

But you can't use the code for in store pickups so won't get it at the quoted price.

bought this for my step daughter on thursday @ the 449 price, it was the last one in my area (norwich) i actually wanted 2 but they couldn't order one is as they're clearance stock. Tight **** wouldn't even offer a discount on the demo one on the shop floor! Incredible that knowing full well it's the last one they'll sell in that store, that it's been manhandled by kids n all sorts, expect to get full price for it!
Anyway machine seems a bit flimsy ie that the case flexes around the keyboard, i was made aware that all in the machine is really nice, the big problem is the viewing angle cause the screen only opens upright at a 90 degrees, basically, you can't tilt it slightly further back as the screen catches on the laptop pulling it up, which isn't great for when viewing it on your lap (unless your torso is 1 foot long) or have a way of brining it up to more of an eye level, which i guess defeats the purpose of a laptop!
This was the feedback i received as i didn't get to look at it myself
