Everyone has their own preferences for a laptop, for me I want one with a large screen as I'm not lugging it around much. I think this Lenovo is a great spec for the price particularly if you claim the VAT back which brings the price down to £624.96. So short specs below, I suspect it will go freezing.......

No bad specs for this price, only if it had a bigger SSD. Heat added.

Just in case it might help this laptop actually has a Hybrid drive. So in other words you can get the benefits of a full size SSD but by using both. The 8GB SSHD is used to speed up the data on the 1TB drive.

Cheers

Good deal but shame it's not touch screen! Heat added.

Anyone knows if I could claim VAT back living in ROI and having Irish bank account? Looking to buy online and very interested in this particular model.. I've sent them an email but still no answer.

HOT! Was keeping my eye on this model for a while. Anyone knows is I can claim VAT back, living in ROI and holding Irish bank account, looking to buy online? Sent them an email but still no reply...

Looks like the only places to buy in ROI to be able to get cashback are PC World and Lenovo see link here

I noticed on the Lenovo site that it was not exactly the same model an i5 instead of an i7 so be careful what you go for

I'm looking for a new laptop for my girlfriend for xmas, only condition is it needs to have a 17" screen with a decent resolution.

Only other machines I've found with 1920 x 1080 (rather than 1600 x 900) are the Dell Inspiron 17 7000 series and HP envy 17.

With the VAT rebate the lenovo is a reasonable chunk cheaper. Anyone got any opinion on the other two?

Think I'll hold off and see if there are any deals over the 'black friday - cyber monday' weekend.

Thanks a lot, I'll have a look at PC World (usually pricey) and will definitely check Lenovo website, I wouldn't expect their prices to match John Lewis though as we always get ripped off here in Ireland..

I use Virtual DJ quite a lot and although I manage just fine at the minute without touch, having it would make my life much easier!!

Also appears to be out of stock now Shouldn't have waited!

How well would this handle video editing (gopro etc)?

Looking for an upgrade as my current one is terrible for it...

That's a whole lotta spec for a very good price!

However I suspect it's going to have Wins 8.1 as the OS which will bring that spec down to a Windows Vista OS level :-(

Rubbish.

Although the GT 840m is a bit crap.

That is a pretty heavy and large laptop but i guess its cos of that 17' screen lol

Nice, really trying to hold out until the new windows is released....

Any good for gaming? Think the GT 840m is a mid range card?

Rubbish that the spec is not good or rubbish because you think Wins 8.1 is badd ass?

Rubbish that your analogy is ****

Windows 8.1 is fine, perfectly possibly to use it as you would 7. And tbh if you're in the market for a laptop, you're not gonna be getting anything else. Unless you wait until Windows 10 hits.

RAM/HDD space sells laptop's to the uninformed. Intel celeron, onboard graphics, 768p screen with 2tb HDD and 16gb RAM? IT MUST BE GOOD.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M not good card for new games!!! 64 bit and ddr3,,, i have pc aleinware m18 comes
NVIDIA GeForce GT 780m sli 256 bit ddr5 !and i7 4930mx with samsung 840pro,when i run the new games in ultra i cannot get good performance but highest setting is fine,if i have problem to run game how you can play game with lenova ????

Be aware of one fact - lenovo's service is based in Germany and run by MEDION. I bought recently one of the flex laptops - it had problem with cooling fan, blowing nearly all the time even though the laptop was ice cold. I rang UK customer service, got a letter from them 3 days later with DPD posting label, had to rang DPD to arrange pick up day later. After 4 or 5 days I got message that device is in Germany and since then no info at all. They reserve 15 days for repair, I think it's close to that now, need to check. So I'm over two weeks now with no laptop...
BTW quality of the laptop is incomparable to HP or Toshiba.

OOS but worth watching.

Please don't purchase this if you want to buy it as a gaming machine. The GTX 840m card won't be able to run many recent games at even medium settings. You want at least a GTX 770m or an 860m before you can consider it a gaming laptop.

For £625 though it's a pretty good buy, though for another hundred you can find something much more portable and with a better GPU.

by size its table top not really a laptop....

out of stock... but thanks for posting

Please note that Lenovo have a habit of not honouring their cashback offers. I bought one last time from them based on an offer of cashback and the cashback was declined. So your price will be 749.95

Voting cold.

Why would you want to touch your laptop screen? Interactive porn games?

Not heard of them, can you send me the link to the site you use?

Its on Steam - Finger Wizard 3

Can anyone point me towards a good general purpose laptop for about £450? For schoolwork and some games such as Sims 4

I worked on few of those hybrid drives (seagate) and it's mostly marketing hype adding very little to the actual performance to be honest.
