Also may be how they have been stored as first one recieved with damaged bin returned then second stopped shredding

Voted hot. Better than the pointless strip-cut paper shredders that most people post.

Thanks OP.

The secrets to longevity with the less-expensive shredders are usually to 100% read the manual, and:
a) try to feed it only single sheets of paper - ie avoid stressing its mechanism with multiple sheets at once
b) never feed it any self-adhesive labelling of any sort - it'll attach to the cutters and clog
c) pace it : only shred a few sheets then give it a bit of a rest - ie avoid overheating and potentially cutting out
d) compress the shredded paper and/or empty the bin OFTEN
e) if it's not making "the right/normal noise" stop immediately - typically you've got backed up cuttings jamming it up
f) give it some oil once in a blue-moon : either via the expensive 'lubricated sheets' or via oil can.

Anyway have ordered one for my folks on basis they will only feed it the occasional sheet of paper and it's too rare to find a cross cut around this price nowadays - and then have one of those 'pointless strip-cut' ones at the moment!
I'd normally wait for the Lidl (or Aldi?) one to come around again with a 3yr warranty, but I think they were mid £20s last time and can't be bothered to wait.
[My £15 Argos own/non-brand cross-cut has just celebrated its 8th birthday, due to my following my own tips.]

Thanks OP have just ordered been after one of these for a while

mk-donald i will take on board all of your tips and go easy on the little **** although i have got a mountain of paperwork to get rid of

I made the mistake of buying one of these, it was absolutely useless. The shredder has a thin plastic guide that runs along the middle of the container which acts as a safety switch for the shredder. This presses against a switch on the top unit which stops the shredder from operating if it isn't inserted correctly into the container.

This safety mechanism snapped off even before the first attempt at feeding any paper into the shredder, rendering the entire device useless.

Yikes - now that is a serious design flaw

Funny you should say that! I tried to post a negative review for something recently. I received an email to tell me it was not allowed under Tesco terms and conditions. The review was clean and honest. I couldn't see why they didn't allow it.

excellent, ordered one cheers

Nice double negative.

I take online ratings with a pinch of salt and certainly don't trust anything that Tesco say. It doesn't stop me from shopping online. Thanks for your concern, anyway.

Ordered. Been waiting for ages on a x-cut shredder deal that hasn't sold out. Thank you & heat added.

Aldi have a much better one for £26 in stock soon.

This one will burn out after a few sheets

I have this shredder. Its a few years old now and works well. You can't grumble at this price.

Sorry if this sounds unrelated but I was wondering if anyone can help. Trying to use the £15 off £60 purchase code on some Nintendo 3DS games. When I'm not logged into my tesco account, the games are all there, but when I log in to checkout, all the 3DS games disappear?

brilliant find and just in time

oos

The new problem is ID theft which is happening a lot lately especially when people use cards online, go figure
