PLEASE PLEASE do not buy it. My OH is trying her very best to drink a bottle as we speak ( with lemonade ) and it is DISGUSTING........

EDIT: does not sound good, not trying to drink the whole bottle just some of it, tasted just as bad yeaterday as well.........

Voted HOT, I think this is highly drinkable

Coke is better for clearing drains - and cheaper...

Good deal. I will be buying some. Voted hot!

All these supermarket type wines were about £3 a bottle until a couple of years ago and then suddenly they all leapt up to £6.99 sometimes with BOGOF
All the supermarkets seemed to do it at the same time so price fixing springs to mind here.
Now if you see a single bottle for sale at £3, people are jumping around as if it was a give away price.
These wines are not even worth £3 a bottle - go to france and get similar stuff for £1.50 - £2.00 a bottle

A good price for this wine and very drinkable!
Scientific research has shown that the public's perception of wine quality is based almost exclusvely on price; tell someone a wine is expensive and they'll think it's great...give the same wine to someone and tell them it's cheap and they think it's rubbish. This is Scientific fact!
Personally, I find Aldi and Lidl wines great value for money and if you ignore the price factor they taste pretty good too!

It's all down to the medial orbitofrontal cortex, apparently.

its true. I buy my other half cheap wine and tell her its expensive. She never complains:whistling:

Thanks, I like it!

Voted hot

It's certainly not an unusual supermarket price for Hardy's and other "known" brands. I'd buy at that price but it's hardly worth posting here. As for "Reduced from £6.50", that's cobblers.

Hmm, not a great price for one of the megabrands - you see Hardy's and Penfolds at "half price" in every supermarket aisle end, every single week. Anyone who ever pays full price for Hardy's or Ernesto & Julio Gallo is a mug...it's cheap, mass-produced wine with very little character, to my palate at least.

Still, each to their own!

Asda also have the Villa Maria Chardonnay on offer at £3 down from 5.99/6.99, which is the standard price you would expect to find it for.

Villa Maria is probably the single best sub £7 bottle of white i've ever had. Verrrrrry Yummy.

Would go for this over the Nottage Hill, but the NH is always a nice drop. Maybe some of the guys have had a "corked" bottle.

Hardy's chardonnay israrely cheaper than £4.99 in Sainsbury's, it might go to £3.99 in an offer period. Personally I can't stand any chardonnay but £3.00 is a very decent price for an Aussie chardonnay. Sainsbury's has Montana Sauvignon Blanc for £.5.99 at the mo, and that is (now!) usually about £7.50 to £8 and it's very good. About a year ago you could get it for six quid almost all the time.

Wine tastes are very personal and what one likes another won't, so dismissing this as a bad deal cause your palate does not appreciate it is daft. Like I said, I don't like chardonnay but it is a reasonable offer if you do.

All that said, I do agree that the price of wine has gone a bit daft, and that the 2 4 1 offers, or the 50% offers are not usually what they appear.

Pretty much all supermarkets have at least one wine "reduced to £3" all the time. This isn't really that big a deal.

I used to work in a winery as an accountant.
The bottle price : £ 2.99
VAT : 45p, Duty - around £1.25, bottle and packaging 40p, transport - 10p, waste - around 10p, and cheap wine -between 20-30p (nice wine would be around 50-100p)
and the manufacturer, wine dealer and supermarket needs to have some profit. So we had to split 50p between all of us! And asda would make most of the profit. So, what do you expect for cheap wines like that?

The villa maria is a very nice New Zealand chardonnay and at £3 a bottle a bargain.
Hardys nottage hill chardonnay is great for £3 but at full price not as nice as many Chilian chard's.
Best, for the bargain price of £3 is Hardys nottage hill ShirazCab very very nice.
Aussie Wines Rock.

Vat & Duty @ £1.70, so the real winner is our beloved leader. LOL

My Asda also has the Nottage Hill Cabernet Shiraz down to £3.00. Quite pleasant if brought to room temperature; pretty nasty if not!

Now Villa Maria IS nice
