Let firefighters wash your car for charity - Pay what you like at about 600 locations

The Fire Fighters Charity National Car Wash League is taking place at fire stations across the UK during March 2018. You can use the map below to find your nearest car wash event date.

If your car could do with a clean following the recent bad weather, this month firefighters will wash it in return for a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity.

About 600 fire stations in England, Wales and Scotland are taking part on selected dates in March (mostly Saturdays), with 280 having already confirmed a date. To find your nearest, see the map of car wash locations and dates on the charity's site. And even if there's none local to you right now, do check back as more will be added during the month.

You won't be able to book a slot, just drive up on the correct date - though expect to queue if it's popular, and of course remember the firefighters could be called away in an emergency. Some fire stations may recommend a minimum £5 donation, but this is only a guide and the charity says you should just give whatever you're comfortable with.

Car washes will be carried out by fire and rescue service personnel, including firefighters, support and control staff. The majority of firefighters will be wearing their uniforms (we thought some of you'd be interested, so we asked), and fire engine hoses will probably be used, but do go prepared for less excitement as it could just be sponges and buckets.

Of course, not all firefighters are experts at cleaning cars (their skills are in other areas), so it'll likely be a quick shampoo and rinse - not the full works - but it's a fun way of helping charity while giving the car a cheap clean at the same time.

What is The Fire Fighters Charity?

The Fire Fighters Charity provides injured and ill UK firefighters with help such as psychological therapy and physio to help them recover and return to work as quickly as possible.

I feel the thumbnail is more representative of firefighters than what women usually think of when they think firefighters.

My brothers a head fireman and dad an ex sub officers so I'm all for them making money for charity's, but no chance would I have them wash my brand new car with a sponge and scratch the paint. I'll wash it myself with the two bucket method and wool mitt. But I'll give them the money anyways lol
As above, I'll happily donate to their cause but no thanks to swirls and marring.

You do realise that most firefighters go in on there day off to do these car washes. The pumps are still on the run and turn out regularly during a car wash

* online donation made to a worthy cause that should be
divvied up, between all servicemen & women that serve
to protect & help others.

Worthy cause.
What a fantastic idea. Between the dozens of calls out firefighters have each day they can still find the time and resources to wash cars for charity.

Maybe the Police and Ambulance service should take a leaf out of their book and introduce something similar. Like the Police and Paramedics really have nothing better to do
Water allowing I presume.
Great idea but wont be letting anyone other than myself wash my car.

Will drop off a donation if I pass and see it going on though.

No jokes about adding heat and firemen etc?

Disappointing HUKD.
Great idea. Seems my local fire station did it on Saturday just gone, which is interesting as it was still snowy that day!

heat anyway
Shame there's none near plymouth

Talk for yourself mate!
If only I could drive
I read CAT wash at first! now that would be fun :-)
Unlikely that they use the two / three bucket method, so they probably will do more harm than good. Voted cold.

Plus they should probably be doing more important things.
Thanks OP. Will try to support if any near me.

I can get my car washed for 20p, do they clean the insides of cars aswell?
Done it in the pass with my company... great idea!
No ta, last time this was happening locally they were a menace.

One moron even tried to make me crash by purposefully stepping out in front of my car after waiting and staring directly at me. Should have run the twit over and gave him reason to use the firefighter fund.

Haha good to see not just me with the car clean ocd
This is sexist, I went to a bimbo car wash place once and it was closed down shortly after for being 'Offensive to women' .... what's the difference......they did a sh1t job..... and it cost me £10
What? No mention of soapy helmets?
Just a heads-up, Highways England have teamed up with a few of these and will be offering free tyre safety checks on site (3D tyre scans). As far as I’m aware, these will be Sunday 11th March @ Ellesmere Port and Saturday 24th March @ Frodsham.
In case anyone’s interested.
