I've had one for a year now - Paid £94.99 then and thought it was excellent for the money.

Records a very wide amount of data, supports Strava, allows upload of routes you might want to create on Google maps. etc.

Blurb from Lezyne
"Featuring a large, sharp display, the Macro GPS is packed with many advanced technologies in an easy-to-use and affordable package. The Bluetooth enabled device can pair through our free Lezyne Ally app to iOS and Android handhelds, in addition to Bluetooth compatible power meters, heart rate monitors and speed/cadence sensors. When connected to a handheld, the Macro GPS provides turn-by-turn navigation, live tracking and Strava Live Segments. Furthermore, the unit has pop-up email, text message and phone call notifications. An optimized GPS recording system tracks all important cycling data, and a customizable screen with up to five pages lets the user see all the info they want to see. And a battery that last up to 22 hours provides plenty of juice for all-day epics."

do modern phones not do the same thing?

Yes they do, downside is that the battery life and screen visibility is often poor. I've also found that notifications, etc from other apps either disturbs or crashes the navigation. Mounting a phone is also often a faff or less secure.

The other thing is if you have a posh new phone do you want a £500 device on your bars doing a worse job than a £100 one?

I tried that before going for this instead. modern phones are just that, phones. Mounted on bicycles they operate only as well as the software will allow, because they're still behaving as phones.

Lezyne offers a nice online account where your ride routes and data are uploaded automatically through your phone too.

How do these compare to Garmins? Thinking of upgrading my Garmin 500, particularly interested in discovering new routes/using it for mapping on the cheap - I know it won't be as good as a Garmin 820/1000 etc. Does the Lezyne website have other peoples routes available to download at all?

Hi, no - the Lezyne GPS Root portal doesnt offer that. However, you can upload other people's Strava routes, if you're a Strava Premium member. This page shows the functionality better blog.lezyne.com/lez…on/

Yes, the GPS Root account site stores your routes and data in minute detail.
I should mention that Lezyne seem to provide decent support for their GPS units, with updates adding new features. They've sensibly made a series of GPS units working on a common base, and then limiting/enhancing functions on a model-by-model basis. As a geeky person, I quite like that. Get the base product right, then provide the users with price points for what they want.

As someone else pointed out, the Macro version doesnt do ANT+. The Super Enhanced version will.

Be warned from one review

"This works pretty well,
One weird thing is that is hard to read the display with polarized sunglasses.
However the worst thing about it is that the battery drains when not in use. It will always be dead when you come to use it."

Utter drivel. I've just switched mine on - last used 9th April - battery meter says 95%.
Thanks for this, just ordered the Macro. Worth it for Strava Live segments alone.

KOMs will fall!

Does this mean using this with things like the Garmin heart rate monitor and Garmin speed and cadence monitor won't work?
Nice find! Quality piece of kit at a great price
An upgrade on my ageing Garmin Edge 500?

Why? Just because yours doesn't doesn't make review invalid. Granted this may be a faulty unit.

Check out ridewithgps.com - allows you to search other users rides and plan your own before exporting. I use it with my Wahoo Elemnt which auto syncs but you can also extract and important via the Lezyne GPS Route site as already mentioned.
Add some heay
It's a bit of an unknown brand to me but oddly the music from the video makes me want to buy it. Loving the synth baseline.
