I was on the look out for a 3D Blu Ray Player to go with the LG 3D TV I bought a couple of weeks ago. Saw these 2 models at Currys/PC World.

LG BP520 - Blu Ray 3D, Smart - No Wifi included (Dongle Required)
LG BP620 - Blu Ray 3D, Smart - Wifi included

Both have an optical output which I need - got me a BP520 as Wifi was not needed.

Cheap as chips from a decent brand and from what I have read, it will play most things you can throw at it.

Oops - just noticed that the 620 is the same price at Amazon but the 520 is still £79.99 at Amazon.
Good find OP, heat added
Good find
Good price. I was tempted by the bp620 but I don't need the wifi (my router is right next to my tv)..so the bp520 is a great deal. £12 more gets you a 3 year instant replacement guartantee as well (which is pretty good for the likes of Currys).

But so will your HD TV.... that is no reason not to buy it - Technology moves so fast theses days that if you had that mindset you would never buy anything look at iPod's and iPhone's with their yearly releases.

Not everybody will be able to afford ultra hd once it comes out. It will be like hd it was expensive at the start then it got cheaper also hd didnt take off straight away so this player will be useful For the near future.
I think the use of a smiley indicated he wasn't being serious.
Not much stock of the BP620, just reserved one in Sudbury. Couldn't find it closer to home.
Couldn't find any stock in the Bristol area last night, so ordered the bp620 from Amazon instead...

Do i have to use the official LG Wireless Dongle with the BDP520 or will any dongle do?

manual lists following compatible usb wifi dongles:

WUSB100-RM (Cisco)
DWA-125 (Dlink)
USB-N13 (Asus)

Looking at the manual, if you use a wifi dongle, it appears it can only be inserted into the front USB socket.

ie. there doesn't appear to be an extra rear USB socket.

I picked up the BP620 today, however am having issues with the WIFI, basically it sees my router, then asks for my password, the looks like it's connecting, the goes back to the asking for my password page. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong anyone?

do these 2 blu ray players play avi xvid divx aswell as mkv ?
Hi team, I got this 2day ie lg bp620. 2b honest don't rate it. I have better connections to internet via my htc one x and its media link. also very few apps only utube and iplayer really the rest are less than useless. as 4 playing disc's etc it played everything under the sun no probs, and works well with hard drive also. but as per usual no hdmi supplied in box so remember to have one handy.

Apparently, Yes, according to page 10 of the manual which you can download from LG UK's website.

Passwords are case sensitive.

Otherwise, perhaps the firmware is severely out of date and needs updating which you can probably achieve by direct ethernet connection to internet, or from an upgrade file loaded onto a USB memory stick.

That is the most ridiculous and unhelpful comment I have ever seen! I use my broadband all the time and it's connected to everything I have iphone, xbox, laptop etc etc etc so I think I know my password is case sensitive!!!

I will plug in to the homeplugs and see if I can update the software then have another go.
Picked mine up yesterday but only had time for a quick play - it is a nice piece of kit and 3D looks pretty darn stunning on it.

The only problem is that I am feeding the sound through an LG home cinema system and there is a fair amount of cross talk between the 2 remote controls which could be irritating. "Eject" will eject both trays for example!!! Ooops! I just need to be careful!!!!
Does this play lovefilm and netflix
Does anybody know what the status for itv player and 4OD on these smart devices is? Everything seems to have bbc iplayer but not some of the other on demand stuff. Thanks.
I'll have a check, Gizmo

Sorry, I never intended to offend you. I was just suggesting a common mistake often made by newbies to wireless networking. I could not have known from your original posting that you own multiple wireless devices and so of course know far more about wireless networking.

I notice the firmware on my BP620 is BD7.697. No newer update is available from the internet. fwiw, my BP620 connected to my wireless router without problems.

I updated to BD9.593 using USB stick.

It didn't solve the problem with BBC iplayer issue where it is suffering from very-slight-stuttering/frame skipping during iplayer playback in SD and HD, even when using a direct ethernet connection when watching Dr Who. (It's not a buffering problem as far as I can tell). I should add I don't see this frame skipping problem using iplayer on my Sony smart TV.

i must have missed out, comes up at £105 on Amazon now. got to be quicker!
It looks like the BP620 is out of stock in most if not all Currys group stores.

However, the BP520 is still available for Click and Collect at the following stores.:

BP520
Currys Weston Super Mare
PC World Old Kent Road
PC World Broxton
Curry.Digital Harrogate
Curry.Digital Chesire Oaks
Currys/PC World Farnborough
PC World Llanelli
PC World Reading (Brunel)
Curry.Digital Camberley

Happy hunting - fab player, by the way
Great player but for some reason LG removed Dolby True HD 5.1 decoding using LPCM on the latest update. So if your using an amp that does not have a True HD decoder built in you will only get 2.1 using LPCM conversion. Bit of a pain as it is a listed feature.
