I wonder if this is essentially the LG42LB580V except with a Magic Remote included????

If so, it would seem that going the John Lewis price-match route for £309.99 is probably preferable because of the 5 year warranty it includes. You could buy a Magic Remote separately if you wish.so getting the package for virtually the same cost.

580V deal here:

EDIT: On thinking about it, I'd guess this 585V package from Currys also includes the bluetooth dongle/functionality from the box. With the 580V I'm reading via Amazon you need to buy a dongle if you wish to add the Magic Remote separately.

also to bear in mind for those who don't need the smartness if you have a xbox or ps4 etc you can get 42 inches with the code for £269. So much choice these days!

I got mine for 299 from john lewis today with the price match guarantee.

What is the significance of the xbox?

Oh the smart function doh

Curry's are now offering 5 year guarantee in store on this TV.

It is the same tv. My Dad bought it last year although on his it didn't have built in wifi so looks like LG upped the spec a little. As far as I know the 585V is exclusive to Currys and has the magic remote included. As the other post says you probably best buying the 580V from John Lewis with the 5 year guarantee and buying the magic remote from Richer Sounds. In essence you end up with the same tv for about the same money but with a 5 year guarantee. Chances are you won't need it as I have two LG's. One is 8 years old in February and the other 4 years old.

That is a good deal if you want the Smart gizmo - it looks like it would be £309 + £20ish for Smart from JL and still need a bluetooth dongle (dunno if you'd need the LG branded wifi/bluetooth or if a 99p ordinary gongle from eBay would do!).

I'm still preferring JL as only have a 2 seater car with noplace to put it if I went in-store

smart features are not that important anyway - you can buy VERY smart boxes for not much or a very basic NOWTV for a tenner which does more than the LG as they don't have the licence for ITV catch-up.

enjoy your new TV

It's a lovely tv. Nice vibrant colours and bright. I spent a bit of time setting it up for Dad and he's not too good with things like that. Magic Remote adds a nice touch but if you have an android phone you can download the LG remote app and it works similar to the Magic Remote in that you can control a few things and it puts the cursor on the screen.

You can get the magic remote and bluetooth dongle for £25 at RicherSounds -

Good post - you have to buy separately many places and they will try to charge you double that.

I hope you don't mind that I'll post that in the thread I quoted in post #1 for those who have bought the 580?!

Interesting, I didn't know about the lack of ITV catch-up. But on the other hand is there ever anything on ITV that you would ever want to catch up on?

I do quite like the idea of the LG having NowTV built in since that may save an HDMI port for something else.

I bought a talk talk DN370t off ebay last year when I ditched sky. Basically it is an HD set top box with twin tuners and a 320gb hard drive. It has Youview where you can scroll back 7 days and play certain programmes that you have missed. It also has all of the players including ITV, 4oD and Now TV. It's a great piece of kit for the money. Cost me £60.00 brand new.
