richersounds.com/pro…350 - although instore deal only. Would actually pay a little bit more to not have the hassel....

Lol, who would have thought that a deal for a 42” LG Plasma selling for £374.99 could be considered cold. Voted hot before I read the first 2 comments.

soz for being so blond in advance but this seems like the right place to ask...

O.k. so most t.v's come with a 1 year warranty right.. but isn't it the case that if the t.v. doesnt last 5 years or so (7 or watever the consumer rights law says) and goes blank/ loses colour or other manufacturer faults, are they not liable to do something about it under the consumer rights thingy.

if thats the case then why do we buy 5 year gaurantees an stuff..

I remember S.A.D. F.A.R.T.from here: too long to [email protected] moneysavingexpert.com

great price at richersounds, less than £350 for a 42" LG plasma

just shy of £360 at amazon, worth a extra £10 to have it delivered.

To answer your question no not really.. The Sales of Goods Act (SOGA) which you are referring to basically states that any goods purchased from a store should be suitable for sale and last "X" amount of time without any problems.

The difference between quoting this and a gaurentee is pretty massive. A gaurentee is pretty much no quibble.. it inherits a fault you ring a number or a supplier and they will replace or fix where possible free of charge usually.

SOGA if you get a weak company can sometimes scare them into doing the above however more often than not they will say the product was applied to regulations when it was distributed. This then means you have to prove that the fault on the product was through no faults of your own and was an inherent problem. e.g get an independant engineers report. Once you have this you can then go back to the company should the outcome be favourable and they may replace or they may dig their heels in further. This would then result in you having to take the case to small claims court etc.

I guess the long and short of it is.. Gaurentees are a lot less hassle and the SOGA is not always going to work in your favour. Although it shouldnt be dismissed as its a very handy piece of knowledge to have!
