IMHO I've found the freeview pic to be dodgy on most large screen TVs

Nice TV, I would go for a Panny though for 50 quid more

Think that my mum will go nuts, but since going away to uni it'll be worth it.

posted a week or so ago, i ordered for my mum and it got delivered yesterday.

go for Panasonic or Samsung, for a little more, if need be. They've been better with our TVs in comparison

You can't generalize like that. Samsung makes some good TV's but also makes some dreadful ones. Panasonic on the other hand is very good but more expensive.
This LG set is very good and received excellent reviews on the net which doesn't means that every LG TV's are good. DYOR

Freeview is fine on mine. You've probably got a dodgy signal.

Great TV, great price. Stunning looks too:thumbsup:

I'm considering this TV aswell. Main usage is for the bedroom with the xbox 360. I'm trying to persuade richer sounds to do it for £600 with the 5 year warranty.

Also I disagree with comments that Panasonic and Samsung are better. The LG is better than the Panasonics X10 range, the LG copes better with image retention and hosts features like pixel shifting and white wash that can reduce its effects.

Why has this been expired? Still showing stock!

Gets good reivews, probably as good as a Panny X10 but you might want more than a year's warranty :-)

Why?

LGs reliabilty is as good as Panasonic or Samsung.

Latest line of LG's seem to be highly rated, very good looking TV as well

Your problem seems to relate around you not going through the retailer, which is what you must do.

You are just slagging off an excellent product because you are an idiot:p

@cheapskate58, you need to learn to read and then check the Plasma Product warranty card. On the warranty card that I have, LG state that "(During the warranty period) if you believe there is a technical fault you should contact the LG Electronics Service Department (as detailed below). "

It varies slightly with LCD panels, LG say to contact the retailer only in the first 28 days and then LG direct for the rest of the warranty period.

Please check the facts rather than show your ignorance.:p:p

Really? LG=Goldstar

Check AVForums.com and look at the comments by owners. Now, the latest line could be very good but it will take 3-5 years to find out. IMHO it''s a close call between the two in terms of PQ but as my comment said, better be sure and get an extended waranty.

Is 42" too big if i'm going to be sat about 3 metres away?

cheers

People seem to be brand biased. If this was a Panasonic then by judging by other threads this would have got heat that rocketed through the roof. Just like buying a car if people have had a trouble free experience with a Saab for example then there next car WILL be a Saab, they just don't look at the alternatives.

LG may have been branded as GoldStar back in the day, but they have made vast improvements. So much so that they supply their panels to big name brands who use their own scalers, algorithms, product design, interface and technology.

If you value CNET's reveiw then look at the LG's competition which is the Panasonic Viera TX-P50X10B. LG edged it ;-)

Both Tv's are not Full HD 1080p, instead 720p so this is something to consider. But for regular SD broadcasts it is fine. With any TV warranty is a must. At the end of the day it goes back what people have had good experiences with or are afraid of change. This LG is a top TV.

I sit about 3m back from the 50PG6000 and it's lush!

I just bought this set from Richer Sounds. Managed to haggle them down to £600 with 5 year warranty.

richersounds.com/pro…tar

Warranty looks good as well:-
We’ll cover your LCD or plasma screen for 5 years full parts and labour,
• Collect and return your screen [if it’s 32¨ or over],
• Give you a 45-day cooling off period if you have a change of heart, when you will get a full refund - no questions asked.*
• Give you a like-for-like replacement if we can’t repair it.

So if it does become faulty within 5 years i'll get whatever 42" plasma, maybe another LG is current with all the new technologies, scaling and likely it will be a full 1080p set. But i'm not worried about that, it's just peace of mind.

Just running in the set at the moment with sky and will give it a blast with the 360 tonight. I'll calibrate it maybe in a week or so. Looks amaing :w00t:

The reason they want the technical department contacted in the first instance is to weed out the idiots who say the TV is faulty 'cos they haven't turned the power on or suchlike. It stops a load customers returning TVs with nothing wrong with them - just the inability of punters to read the instruction book.

If there is a genuine problem and you have done everything contained within the instructions, then the retailer is your port of call. Not tricky.

You're talking about old problems - and Panasonic had as least as many as issues as LG with their own "purple snakes" faults.

Innovative technology/clever marketing that is designed to eliminate motion blur/judder. Seems to be pretty good too:thumbsup:

LG is the abreviation of the original Korean firm Lucky Goldstar, which has become over the last 20 years a huge, well respected international company. Massive in the lcd and dvd/bd fields.
Similarly Daewoo used to be a small Korean company that made computer bits and monitors.;-)

And Sony used to be the best electonics compny in the world and is now a basket case of businesses, which it is struggling to pull together into a cohesive group.

Certainly looks impressive, and I have not even calibrated properly yet. I just calibrated the contrast, brightness and sharpness until the set has run 100hours. As far as Image retention is concerned I did play a 30 min gaming session of COD and switched to sky for 10 mins and turned of the TV to check for signs and nothing.

Under UK law, if it breaks you have 6 years to go back to the place you bought it from and ask them to sort it out for you. This is stated in the Sale of Goods Act. Warranties are a red herring these days and only serve to misinform people of their real rights...

Is this still the best plasma TV of around 40" for a price of around £500?
