It doesn't matter here, All levels of mental acuity are welcome on HUKD

Very good reviews
That smarts having no smart, use it a lot. Is there a version with smart functionality?

Funnily, after deciding I wasn't going to buy that 49" Techwood because of the 1 year warrenty, I had a look around and saw this one too. Not sure if the smart thing is an issue as it will be used with a nvidia shield, but its always good to have. Reviews have put me off a little.

PS4 games are 1080p (1/4 of 4K) and Xbox One games run at just under 1080p in most cases. You would have no benefit what so ever from this.
49" going down to £359 according to John Lewis Glasgow branch today, was instore and they told me to wait a couple of days as they're shifting them to make way for new stock. Won't make a deal just yet though as no ground to plant flag in!

as far as I know it would upscale but not sure to what extent and if it can benefit you. Samsung and sony for sure would upscale to 4k resolution, it means that would give a final screen resolution at 3840x2160. Picture would look softer but In my opinion will not improve quality (may be yes and gaining benefit would be down to the way you look at it if you think there will be any), some people do say it does. Other makes are rubbish to upscale. You would also be looking for a good low lag input and Samsung series2015 is the best on doing that. With a 4ktv you can also use your pc at 3840x2160 when needed and for games at full true 4k or less.

Smarts in a TV are more of a liability than a benefit.
We have a "smart" Toshiba. It's only 5 years old, but none of the features that it came with work any more. The iPlayer API was changed and the TV firmware never got upgraded. The Youtube app went the same way and all the rest of the stuff was so clunky that it was unusable. The Skype app never worked and was tied to an extremely expensive proprietary camera, anyway.

Once they have your money, TV makers have no incentive to provide upgrades. In fact if it prolongs the usefulness of the TV, it positively hurts them. So give me a TV that is little more than a screen and input selection and I'll handle the rest with cheap add-ons that CAN be upgraded, or replaced for £50 rather than spending £££ hundreds on replacing the whole shebang, just because the old telly can't install the last, bloated, version of Google Play Services.

Plus, who's to say what the new "killer app" will be in a couple of years. All you can be certain of is that a smart TV you buy today won't have it.

I see your question and raise you the questions of whether it has a 10 bit display; features Rec. 2020 colourspace; has EOFT of SMPTE ST 2084; and supports HDR10 Media Profile?

I have the 49" version of this model. Its nice. No SMART features actually make this TV better. Get yourself an Amazon Fire TV with 4K or any other player and then you could possibly call any SMART TV 'smart'. I am personally using it with an oldish i5 core laptop connected via Display port -> HDMI cable in Full HD. Kodi works well.

Well, google is our friend. if you download the owners manual and look at page 13, the answer is
yes

Not sure what the lag is though.

As there is no 4k tv, 4k netflix is beyond a lot of broadband capacities, there is no 4k dvd (yet), xboxes and ps4s don't do full 4k (i think)...
isnt the only real world driver for a 4k tv (at the moment) a computer - and that needs 4k / 60hz at 4:4:4 with as little lag as possible for good results.
So this info should be up in the description for all 4k tvs imo.
not bothered if it has Smart TV but christ only 2 HDMI inputs what the hell is this with TV makers 3 should be a minimum now if you think what most people have now (Sky or similar, DVD/Blu Ray, and possibly a games console or fire box etc)

Fair points. Doesn't it make more sense to buy a non-SMART TV, then simply pair it with some sort of Android Box? This is sort of deal I will looking for when the time to buy arises.
None in stock near me sadly

RS Telesales have some. I got mine 2 hours ago.
Will the 4K be any use to somebody with regular HD TV/Streaming or Blu Rays?

Or is for the next stage of video/tv boxes?

well you won't see any benefit - as your console is only capable of providing games at a maximum resolution of 1080p, however a gaming PC capable of 4K output would benefit from a 4K television

there's no harm in using your console on a 4K TV though
So which is it? 4k or Ultra HD? There's a difference in pixels.

Was that sarcastic? A 43 inch 4K TV is pointless unless you sit about three feet away from it AND have access to 4K sources (currently almost non-existent). However, if it works well as a PC monitor it can easily justify its existence. So I, for one, am very interested in the answer to that question.
Anyone interested in alternatives to smart tv i would highly recommened the amazon firestick with kodi installed.
This looks like a really good deal...thanks OP.
I'd be interested in using it both as a TV (there IS some 4K content around), and as a PC monitor for some eye candy gaming if it's up to it. There aren't any in my local store unfortunately, but is this worth a drive to one a bit further away?
