This is an amazing deal from JL. I paid £599 for this back in June and that was a hot deal then so this must be even hotter!

Model number 50ph660v for reference!

£449 with a 5 year warranty, apparently Richer Sounds will price match it too.

Great TV, screen a little reflective and glasses were £25 a pair IIRC but smart features work well and can be controlled more easily with ipad / iphone. Freeview HD looks great.

I instantly regret buying my current TV...

Seems good, uncle wants an oversized telly, seems this would fit the bill...Any reviews?

Trust me, I'm greatly displeased that it's now £150 cheaper!

There weren't many reviews around when I bought mine. I can say it's good enough for what I want. I'm no TV purist and if I was I'd be spending a damn sight more than this. Picture is good, especially in HD formats, smart functions are all good. There was a problem with the iPlayer but I think this has been resolved now after an update.

Good deal if a plasma fan. Have voted hot all the same for price.

Bought this from JL after seeing it on the earlier post here for this from Amazon...brilliant price and heat added.

Where can the glasses be bought at £25 ish a pair OP? Any links?

Original Poster

I got them in Richer Sounds when I got the TV. Think their usual price is £30.00 a pair? They are, from (my useless) memory the LG AG-S360 I think.

3D is over-rated in my eyes. I've maybe watched one thing in 3D

Thanks for the info on glasses....agree with you on 3d it is over rated I had a 50" panny st 3d but ended up selling it (bought from M&S for £175 now that was a bargain from here...) but still want to get the glasses for the odd movies.

Great price for this. I'm gutted though, been checking hotuk on an hourly basis for a 55" + 3d smart led for the last week or so and nothing has popped up!! Any ideas please?

Cheapest I've seen the glasses is £36 a pair on eBay - I was going to buy this television to replace the LG 50LA620V I'm going to send back but the price of the glasses is a bit of a deal killer for me. I'd need 4 pairs which brings it up to Samsung Plasma prices.

The best 55+" Smart LED television I've found for the money at the moment is the 58" Toshiba at Costco at £979 including two pairs of active glasses (and 5 year warranty)

You can't watch one thing in 3D then say it is over-rated. 3D transfer quality varies depending on how well it has been done. There are some stinkers but they are outweighed by many good transfers.

For example, Jurassic Park is fantastic in 3D. It will make anyone a fan of 3D Bluray.

My apologies - I only watched despicable me!

Don't like the glasses. Uncomfortable and the flicker annoys me unless it's really dark.

Cheers bbdom, I'll have a look at that one, I have up to £1500 for the right one

do any 3d glasses work? or do you have to buy specific ones

How far away from the screen do you need to be with a set this size?

Great price. Heat added.

Amazon have it up at the same price and I can get next day delivery free on prime. Is it worth the "within 14 days" delivery for the JL warranty? Or does Amazon offer a similar warranty?

With a budget of £1500 I'd be looking at some of the better Samsungs or possible the LG but beware of the DSE problems many screens that use LG panels seem to have.

I really want to keep my LG - I paid £600 for it for a 50" 3D but the DSE is only just tolerable and the fact it reboots randomly makes me very nervous - I've just spoken to LG and they have suggested I try a factory reset but it is on it's last chance )

Taken from the site "please note that 3D glasses are available separately", depending on how much these cost will affect the Deal.

I think Costco has them but obviously need to be a member or go with a member and not sure how prices compare.

those are the main reasons why I went for passive 3D, got the 50" LG LED deal from amazon and the 3D is bright and clear even when watching in the afternoon daylight, and no flicker and uses light and comfortable cheap glasses, and it's been working fine for the past week, quite happy about it.

Mine is coming wed from JL only 6 days delivery ....to sacrifice a 5 year guarantee for the sake of a few days wait is near on mental in my humble opinion but upto you.....Amazon is 1 yr guarantee.

I bought this TV from John Lewis in June for £630. It's a great TV. The BBC iPlayer now works fine. It's got a full internet browser. You can stream TV files, shows & YouTube from any tablet & android phone. The DLNA support is brilliant, it will stream any file format from a NAS, inc MKV files. Nice bit of kit! £150 cheaper now!!! Go for it, you won't be dissappointed.

I bought 3 pairs of Barnd New LG 3D AG-S350 glasses off ebay for this TV @£18 each. I also use my Samsung Active glasses with this TV as well, they work fine. I reckon you can use any active 3D glasses.

..... oh and I forgot to say, in addition to Freeview HD built in, it also has FreeSat HD built in as well. It has full DiSEqC support including multiple DiSEqC LNB & Switches as well as full DiSEqC Motor control for motorised dishes. I can't beleive this "feature" isn't listed in the technical specification!!! It isn't BUT IT IS THERE ON THE BACK OF THE TV!!!! Brilliant Stuff.

Cheers! Yeah, I dont mind the wait but Amazon customer service has always been spot on for me so if they offered the same type of warranty I'd have swayed their way. At 1 year vs 5 years its a no brainer.

whats the difference of energy running cost compared to LCD how much difference is this tv(plasma) vs a LCD over a year ?

is 3D only available thro external sources or is there any free to view 3D channels?

There's no Freeview 3D Transmissions yet, so at the moment only through external sources. However, the TV does have a 2D to 3D conversion built in, which for certain transmissions isn't too bad. So, if you use this feature, any transmission can be enhanced at the touch of a button on the remote!

Original Poster

No free to view channels but tv will convert 2d to 3d but just not as well as it'll show native 3d.

Energy cost difference is minimal unless you are one of those who worships the black shiny rectangle and therefore have it on every waking moment

If you use the inbuilt Satellite feed and point your dish (or use the rotors settings in the TV) to 19 degrees East, there are some German Channels which transmit in 3D. Quite often they have the original english soundtrack as the secondary audio channel, just switch it to that.

Thanks OP. Ordered!

I have been planning to spend over £1,500 on a nice set for a while. But, with the rise of 4K & OLED I feel most sets on the market will be old hat in the next 18-24 months. This should do me until these fancy new sets become a little more affordable.

Are there are decent good value 40-50" 1080p Smart TVs around that don't have 3D. Really wouldn't use 3D.

thanks for the help.

Do you pay extra for 3D via sky? or can i just plug this into a sky HD subscription?

Regarding John Lewis returns, can i just return this item if i didnt like it? and they would pick it up from my house and return it for free? i have no John Lewis near me.

Thanks
