A riot of colour

Elegant and packed with clever features, the LG 50UM7450PLA 50" Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR LED TV makes movie nights even better. With a 4K display and True Colour Accuracy, you'll see the full spectrum of colour in life-like detail. Nothing washed out, and no colour banding. Just an all-round stunning picture.

And with Active HDR, the TV remasters each scene as it plays to display rich colour and vivid detail, exactly as the producers intended. It's great for gaming too, making the games you love look more real than ever.

ThinQ AI

No more navigating from one menu to the next. With ThinQ AI, you can ask your Magic Remote to find the show you want to watch. Simply say “Play Breaking Bad on Netflix” or “Turn off after this episode” and your TV will take care of it.

And with Google Assistant, you can control your smart lighting and manage your schedule from your LG UM7450 TV as you watch. Ask "how long will my journey to work take?", or "dim the living room lights", and your TV will respond straight away.

Ultra-surround sound

Place yourself in the best seats on match day, the heart of a tense battle scene, or the front row of a gig. DTS Virtual:X places certain sounds where they would naturally occur, creating a realistic 3D listening experience that brings you closer to the action on screen

I'm trying to convince myself that I don't need a new phone, despite being out of contract with a S9+ (while it behaves anyway)
I've been in the market for a 2nd telly so I've seen a few of your deals pop up... I went with this deal last night - hoping it'll do for a bedroom
This chap was not happy with the black levels / bleed. Sent it back.

Should do, we have a cheapo Samsung HD Ready and it does for us.
Can anyone confirm that this is a VA panel?

I have seen here previously that there were no 50" ips panels produced , only 49"

From what I've read over the past week or so in research, the 50 inch version is VA. Can't point to a direct source, but I've definitely read it somewhere about LG TVs

On 43" and 55" versions LG have - IPS Panel Yes - in the specs on their site. On the 50" it's not even listed as question.

Cribbed this from another site so can't claim credit/responsibility for its content.

  • Every TV that uses a 50"/58"/60" panel will be VA type, from any manufacturer including LG and Philips
  • 55" models from LG will always be using IPS type panels.
  • Philips models at 55" are probably using IPS type panels, but maybe VA. You won't know until you own the TV.
So what are the advantages and disadvatages of IPS vs VA?
