do you get 5 year warranty with this?

or can another company match it who provides 5 year warranty with their tvs?

Personally I've had my eye on the 60 inch plasma at Richer Sounds for £799. John Lewis offered a price match too.

Nope this model is exclusive to currys

the Sony 55W805 at John Lewis for 999 is the best I'd say around this price range (especially if gaming, low lag...). I'd definitely pay the extra, 5 year warranty with JL too.

Oh im tempted.

I wonder if the 620v with 200hz is better than the 100hz the 660v has? (620v has 2 speakers rather than 3)

I saw this today and was tempted. But reviews say the W8 series don't have a great black level

Yes, as above. Make sure you report the sales person for lying to you to his companies customer service too. Really annoys me when they do this. They all know when the prices will drop, and if they don't, they should!

That's very arrogant of you to assume the sales person knows about the price drop or how much it will drop, that info is usually given to the managers not the sales peeople like with any company people at the bottom are the last to know

Or is it very arrogant of those companies not to educate all their staff and advise their customers of upcoming known sales??? Depends which side of the fence you sit... with the multi million pound profiting CEO's of those companies or with the general public looking for a reduced price!

I believe Currys have a policy if it drops within 7 days of you purchasing you can get the difference back.

i bought 1 in oct and was assured the price wouldnt be lower in the sales.i paid £1199.
however it is a massive upgrade from my last 47 inch tv,the 3d is supurb and its the only brand that does dualplay, where in a splitscreen 2 player game you both have a pr. of glasses but only see your player, full screen.
works even better with a ps3 with 3d blu-ray player built in,great deal. HOT!!!

was this the same tv on sale at costco for £799 with free blue ray player.

Not sure how xmas eve was 2 days ago, but if you bough it on xmas eve, then it's over the 7 day return period.

We bought this TV from Currys just over a week ago. It was out of stock online so we had to drive to a not-so-local store to pick it up. The TV is fantastic. My husband used to work at Currys and he chose this one. It's a brilliant picture and the sound is great. Apparently the 3D means that the processing speed is higher and that makes the pixels refresh quicker so it improves the picture even if you're not using the 3D feature, this one is 400Hz and the picture is very sharp. It was much better than a sony 50 inch that was £100 less but half the processing speed. My husband says LED is better than plasma. Plasma TVs can't be laid flat or the gasses leak and over time the gasses stop working properly, this obviously won't happen in an LED. Really pleased with this telly and I'd encourage anyone to get it. We did reserve and collect so we got 1.5% cash back through quidco too :-D

Any views on the 42LA660V Smart 3D 42" LED TV?

Can't decide whether to go for that, the 620V or 690V. Really can't see any difference. Apart from the price....

As an employee of DSGI, we don't know what products will drop in price. We know the areas that sales will happen in but never the item and to what price it will go to.

If purchased and price drops within 7 days then a refund of the difference is done. If brought Xmas eve.. You have no chance.

The right Plasma will destroy ANY LED TV... The black level's on a Plasma can't be beaten, and the response time on them is the best on any tele out there. A few Panasonic Plasma have one What hi-fi of the year a few years running and there THX certified which means the best of the best set up wise for picture quality.
As for lying the tele flat, why would you even put a tele flat?

The thing with last years (2013) LG tele's is response time, which is the worst of any TV, Sony have the best time and there the winners on LED response... So if your a gamer PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 or Xbox One this tele might not be the one for you depending on how much you play games.

The 3D on LG tv's for being passive are one of the best I've seen, Sony suffer from slight crosstalk and the Samsung ones just look horrible. Most LG tele's are passive technology so your not getting the full resolution. Say you put a 3D blu-ray film on in 1080p, when you put 3D on it halves the resolution to 720p.
Another thing most these LG tv's use the older slower processor so if you use the SMART app's they'll be really slow compared to the newer processor they use in other models.

I'm possibly getting the 55LA790V what I'll be mainly using or blu-rays, just wish the response time was faster, not sure how bad it's going to be on my PS4 but fingers crossed.

great deal!!

@toon_army, agreed you cannot beat plasmas for dark contrasting, that said I rarely use my tv in the complete dark to notice this so I am opting for a 55 LED, I have looked at the LG55LA660v in Currys but I must admit the picture looked terrible, it had loads blurring in the motion shots. I compared it to the Sony W8 which seemed a much better picture and apprantly a lot less lag for gamers. If people are interested in the LG elsewhere then Hi-spek are doing the LG 55LA690V for £899 with free delivery. Currys charge delivery unless you want to wait 2 weeks and to be honest who does?

Richer Sounds are doing a few sets inc Sony W8, Panasonic L55ET60 and the LG all under a grand with 5 year warranty. So I may pay them a visit tomorrow

Sounds like a hot deal t0mm0

DO you think I would be better with sony than lg just use it to watch tv.

Is the Samsung UE55F6500 a better TV? It's £999 but I think it'll drop to £900 soon.

Well, I bought the Sony myself about 2-3 weeks ago. Picture looked better to me and 5 year warranty is good to have as well.

amycharlie

To be honest Sony and LG use the same panels in a lot of there screens, all you need to do is get the screen set up properly. Plus if your only watching normal Tv this tele will look terrible on channels unless there HD, but even then your not getting full resolution as they don't broadcast in full 1080p.

The Sony W8 and W9 picture quality is really nice, I'm sure the W9 won a what hi-fi award if I'm correct!
Like I say though any screen will look good set up right, out the box hardly any tele's look good and in a shop look terrible... Buy yourself Terminator 2 Skynet Edition on blu-ray theres a THX optimizer on the disc to sort your picture out :-)

with the 690 you get:

400Hz instead of 200Hz
12W per channel instead of 10W
Subwoofer
Wireless Sound Sync (whatever that is)
Contrast Optimizer (again whatever that is)
Dual Play
Local Dimming
Screen Share - Tag On : NFC
Magic Remote
Voice Recognition
And it's half the depth of the 620

Up to you if it's worth £150.00.
And good look getting any of the "exclusive" 660V models from Currys. Was in 2 days before New Year and they were quoting a month on delivery of the 47" one. Admittedly at £599 it was a very good price you just couldn't get them.

The 660 and 690 are the same apart from the stand, 620 is a lower spec. Link below should help, towards the bottom it shows the differences between models:

I got the 47LA690V on JL pricematch for £679. I'm really impressed with it. Even controls motorised satellite dishes.

That's absolute rubbish, they don't know what and when prices will change. The advisor most likely made an educated guess, why should they know when every price is going to change, out of thousands of products?

It annoys me when people come out with absolute rubbish, claiming like they know what they're talking about.

Yes they will match it down £100, which seems a fair policy to me, just like most retailers. I've never been to John Lewis, to be told don't buy yet, it's gong down in price....rubbish.

Looking for something to replace my panasonic g20 plasma.

Might be time for 3D and smart but absolutely love the tv so it's going to have to be something special.

Darren.

So if the saleperson doesn't know what items are going on sale when, don't you think it would be more acceptable to be honest and say "I don't know but you are welcome to come back in a few days", rather than to blatantly lie (or make an UN-educated guess) to get a sale now?

Amazing that some people believe blatant lies is a perfectly acceptable way of selling. We all know it happens, doesn't make it right!

I've just bought one of these, and I can't get the 60hz to go up to its full 400hz... How do I do this? It's terrible for PS4 because of this.
