Alternative deal to this is the Costco one at £669 delivered that's bundled with a 3D blu Ray player too
Edited by: "rporteo" 25th Feb 2015

Brilliant price with the 5 year warranty price match... Nice purchase!

This is by far, the Best 55" Smart TV on the market for the money... the only ones any better, are 4K TV's, but until they come down from Stupido-Expensive-Prices, this is the one to get / have / upgrade to

Suggest anyone that is serious about buying one, get down to your local Currys / PCworld and have a play, watch a film, stream some stuff, do it when it is QUIET.. eg: when everyone is at school or just as the store opens, you will really benefit from seeing this actual set, without nine trillion numpties walking past the screen as you "Demo" it!

Nice overview of all WebOS system and why it is such a cracking TV..

I have 42" version from Costco, which came with the same wifi bluray player (basically makes any tv a smart tv). Tv is good, but getting the perfect contrast can be a nightmare. As someone advised on here-start with sport mode and modify from there-seems to be the best.

Good luck price matching it! They didn't for me with a previous Tv but keep trying.

Have you updated yours to the Jan15[timestamped Dec14] firmware yet Mer?

This solved a few calibration setting issues with the 42/50/55/60 but not the 70" for whatever reason, also have you calibrated it from factory to your own preferences if you have updated the firmware?

Tip: If poss, download the LG updated firmware zip and do the update from a usb stick, after doing a complete factory reset on the tv, then calibrate it propa like ;-)

Quite surprised they matched this. Is not a actual shop but a showroom.

The W8 is better but there is a price difference. The LGs are usually cheaper

Will this tv show www.filmon.tv..............i think flash player is needed and the lg tv's dont have flash.

I have just googled for the answer.......LG tv's do NOT support flash player.......so i will wait a bit longer.

Thanks very much for the tips-I will check all of this when I get home. Got a feeling that I've updated the firmware and the picture did improve, but I don't think I've tried to calibrate it since, so that might be the answer!

LG 50PB660V Plasma HD 1080p Smart TV, 50" with Freeview HD
I bought the above tv from john lewis price matched, £399 its £539 on website, they price matched with powerdirect.

Thank you for your enquiry.

I have looked into your request and I am afraid that we cannot match with AO as they are an online only competitor which means they do not trade on the same basis as John Lewis as they do not have a high-street store.

Sorry I have not been able to price match at this time, but if you need anything further please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Yours sincerely,

John Lewis

I recently purchased pretty much the same TV but labelled as the JL9000/55 which is this TV branded for John Lewis's however as a JL product it comes with better quality 3D glasses and the stand doubles as a sound bar , (can also be wall mounted with the sound bar attached to the TV, and a built in webcam, however atm this TV from JL is £750 but just a couple of weeks ago it came with a free LG G Pad 7" worth £130, so I would say anyone wanting this TV wait until Easter and there almost certainly going to be a deal on it as a JL9000. it will also have the 5 year guarantee

fingers crossed ... though I think you cant beat JL customer service, which was the deal clincher for me, so I am not worrying myself about issues because I have complete faith that it will be resolved swiftly . ( based on previous purchased tv though JL )

Thanks Gavin. Found this TV a few days ago and have been so tempted to get it. Just had e-mail back from JL confirming they will price match Marks Electrical. 5 year guarantee seals the deal. Can't wait to get this! Makes my 2 year old LG 42" non smart TV seem ancient lol

The usual bias from PS, completely based on what he/she thinks is important and without reference to professional review.

Completely depends on what you're looking for in a TV, gone are the days that contrast and brightness are the only considerations. The Sony W8 series will look like a dinosaur in 12 months time once Sony has released their 2015 range with revamped Android based smart interface there'll be thousands of these up & down the country with Chromecast stuck out of the USB port.

LGs webos puts smart to the front of the queue, TV is an app, iPlayer is an app, Netflix is an app, DLNA/Plex is an app etc etc - all accessible by a single, modern UI. Sure webos 2 will be shipped with this years models, but by all accounts it's a minor upgrade.

Typical response from an LG fanboi and being upset because someone has a different opinion. Also, if you want to base on "professional reviews", why don't you look at the top 10 WhatHiFi, AVForum etc? You'll see that the W8 is in there.

Also, you banging on about about a TV being an app. lol, NO a TV is a device which runs on an OS which you can install software called apps. These can be updated on a TV like any device

I don't even own the W8, I went for the Samsung H6400 for other reasons. I do like the "WebOS" thought, but that couldn't even tempt me.

I just wish my 37" 8 year old telly would break!!!

Complete tosh, I own Apple, a Panasonic plasma, Sonos etc so I'd love to know how you know I'm pro LG. I bought the TV that fitted my personal needs the best, the LG in this case. And live TV is just another app on Webos, yet more proof that you really have no clue what you're talking about - just a thought, why not back up your opinions with links/proof once in a while?

The worst thing is people like you come on forums like this one with unqualified opinion touting it as fact, misleading the casual reader into buying things that may or may not be best for them.

5" more with this deal

Just tried to get the price match on JL and they said they don't price match them.
Anyone else have this problem?

Why get so angry because I chose a TV that isn't like your LG? Quit crying Mr Expert, just because someone disagrees you call them a "casual reader" and have an "unqualified opinion"? The person who asked the question can see that the W829 is highly recommended TV.

BTW, like I said a TV is a Device not an app.

perhaps worth an email asking why you know many others are getting the deal accepted and your not.... perhaps worth dropping in they seem to favour some and not others. I'd be interested in what they say to that.

Nice one JPS, complete piece of mind for 5 years and by the time you are ready for the 4K upgrade [as I mentioned 8K will be with us in the UK!] the prices and sizes for 4K sets, will match this one

£120 a year to watch a top of the shop spec TV with full peace of mind, that will be updated by LG for at least 3 years..

Priceless!

Got the 60", so when you get it, do a full factory reset and usb latest firmware [timestamp jan15] upgrade from LG, do not let the tv do it, by network|wireless, as it seems to not overwrite all the rom area for the old firmware.

Once done, power up, go to custom profile [unless you are using a calibration app or are indeed a TV engineer!] turn up the brightness to 60, contrast to 70 and bang, job done for nearly all rooms/movies/streaming needs!

The dynamic mode is pretty cool and good for F1 HD, got a 4K Panasonic and tbh, the picture on the LG 60" [same tv guts as this one] looks better!

What you will REALLY love is the "out of the box" screen chucking and full chromecast/Widi support, this is one of the best factory features of this LG range, even more so, when you are a UniqueGeek like me

For anyone on the fence, please simply IGNORE all the reviews for this TV and go and play|watch|demo it like I said in earlier post.. if you are seriously looking for a new smart TV of this size and up, other than a 4K purchase, this ticks all the right boxes for the whole family and business niche use alike!!

With the 5 year warranty price match [hurry JL will run out of stock as usual soon!] this is a no brainier purchase!
