That review is for the 850, not the 820. Different model?

Lol not even same model! The ub850v was review was updated after a firmware update and given a much better score. I actually own both the ub820v and ub850v and the difference is no 3d or webos on ub820v and slightly less processor rate. Picture quality is similar but motion is smoother on ub850v. Webos is easier to use but the ub850v comes with a 5 year warranty.

Looks like a decent deal. No
Stock for miles around and delivery is 2-4 week.

Is this a 5yr warranty? Can't spot that - I'm using my phone.

does anyone know if john lewis will price match?

Still only "qualified recommendation" ...

I bought the 55UB830V which is £899 BUT comes with 5 year guarantee and 3d.

After several firmware updates the picture is superb and it does everything I could want and then some:)

This deal from Currys does NOT have 5 year warranty nor does it have 3d. To me it's a no brainer to buy the better model.

Got mine locally in Cardiff from Vaughans so didn't need to give currys/pc world my money and support.

Cheers for the info never heard of um till now but just looked at there site and they seem to be a bit more expensive , did you take out extra warranty ? And can I ask how much you paid all together mate .

thanks

Just as an option for anyone looking for a 55" tv, the Sony 55w829 can be had for £50 more and comes very highly recommended so it's worth a look. Admittedly it's not a 4k TV, but all reviews suggest it has unbeatable HD picture and copes with motion brilliantly for this price point. The only thing it seems to get caught on is a slightly soft 3d picture.
Like I say, worth a look if you can eek out an extra £50 for a TV and are prepared to wait a while longer for 4k technology to improve and become cheaper.

Bought this one myself as part of their Black Friday deal and to be honest it's genuinely incredible. Not noticing a huge difference with upscaled 4k admittedly but it's honestly a fantastic TV at a bargain price.

Glad to see the price of 4k becoming so affordable, but until there's any content to watch not sure what the point is. Normal TV transmission which I understand is half full-HD on HD channels needs to be upscaled so much on a 4k TV that I wonder if you lose picture quality?

Indeed. HD Sat is 1080i, at moment, can't see 4k becoming mainstream for a very long time. 4k Blu might appear 2015/16

everyone mentions Netflix and sky and mainstream tv when talking about 4k what about the latest gen consoles ?

A much better score that still results in a "Qualified Recommendation"!? lol You should learn what HDTVTest's recommendations mean

Even though the 820 and 850 are different model numbers, they're in the same series ("8"), with a few differences only being down to small features, e.g. OS, LG Cloud access etc. Given that the higher model (UB850V) is the model that received the average score from HDTVTest, it doesn't bode well for the lower model that this thread is about (UB820V).

I have been looking at the 830v model but unsure what the 3d and 4k are like on it? Been bought a 3d cinema set for Xmas so want to make the most of it. The other tv I have been looking at is the kdl55w8 picture is amazing but apparently 3d isn't great? Anyone able to help in my decision?

On average lifecycles, next-gen will be about 5-7 years hence

From what I've read, the 3d on both sets won't be too different - lg uses passive and Sony active, but the quality seems to be the comparable on these sets.
To be honest, you'll probably find 3d to be a novelty very quickly (as most people seem to) and as the majority of tv and film is 2d you should make your judgement more on that picture quality.

i just bought the smaller version the LG 42UB820V Smart 4k Ultra HD 42" LED TV, from woolworths with 10% off for opening an account,

If you mean can they game at 4K, not a chance, the same goes for PCs, even they currently aren't suitable for 4K gaming for the most part.

Sorry but all LG TV's are inferior to Panasonic, Samsung, Sony to name a few, that's why they are always cheaper.

Latest gen consoles can't do 4k. The Xbox one is maxed at 720 HD and the PS4 at 1080. Heaven knows why Microsoft launched a next gen console with last gen graphics - laugable it cant do 1080 when 4k is now coming into the fold!

I will not go for this, it has been at this price a while now. Go for the 850 model when its price drops down to £800.

Plenty of games on the Xbox One are 1080p.

Even top end pc cannot do 4k gaming, no chance for console in this generation.
LG is cheaper because they use ips panel, same as panny, both suffer from real black issue

Good explanation on IPS and VA panels regarding contrast, true black and viewing angle

I have this TV and it's really nice, especially after running all the software updates. Gaming seems pretty awesome (ps4) as well.

Of course you can do 4k gaming on a pc - as long as you have the right hardware (gpu, psu, etc.), which a top end gaming pc should have.

Few people have said the 830V is a better model than the 850V, I have seen the 830V advertised for £850 online.
Think I might stick with the Sony as at least i know its a quality build.

I'm loving the 3d on the 830V can't help with comparison to the kdl55 BUT would say passive 3d is for me better than active 3d.

How is the 3D on the 830V Pont? I've read its a bit sharp with it being passive? How does the 4k compare to other brands like sony also?

Stuck between the KDL60W85 or LG 55UB830V, just the difference of the 4k involved.

The Xbox One doesn't currently support output at 4K/UHD resolutions, the max is 1080p. Given that some Xbox One games are only managing 900p ouput, it's clearly impossible for the Xbox One (at least in its current form) to handle games in native 4K resolution. The best you're going to get on the Xbox One is an upscaling of a 1080p game to 4K but, even then, that's most likely going to be left to the TV to handle.
