Hi all, this is my first deal post so hope it is ok and that it helps someone. Many thanks to the community for sharing amazing deals every day.

Now regarding the deal, I was checking out TV prices in the run up to Black Friday and this came up, it seems like a decent price for 55 in 4K TV especially given that it comes with 5 years breakdown warranty, (personally wouldn't touch LG TV`s otherwise).

Was originally posted from Amazon for 579 with 5 years warranty, which according to the three wise camels say that it is at it's lowest ever, also available from Currys for 629 but their only offering 1 year warranty so no go. Was also posted previously for the same price from Very but has since gone out of stock and didn't have the extended warranty.

Specs :

  • Ultra HD 4K resolution - a depth of detail; Ultra HD 4K resolution is four times that of full HD producing brilliant clarity and vivid details that amaze, even when viewed up close; this level of detail is well suited to the life like colour of IPS 4K display; the resulting images will redefine your viewing experience.
  • Multi HDR - television from the future; enhanced Formatting technology enables LG TV to output both HLG and HDR 10 high dynamic range formats; get the HDR experience, from a wider choice of sources
  • Ultra surround sound - television deserves flawless audio; this Sound technology creates seven virtual channels which produce the multi channel ULTRA surround effect; your senses are surrounded by audio from all angles.
  • Smart TV webOS with Freeview play; enjoy your favourite channels and catch up TV services with no monthly cost; the smart way of watching live TV and on demand services, with no additional devices required
  • Two pole stand - stand your television on this two pole swallow stand; this sturdy construction lifts the design of your TV and provides secure placement in any room

brilliant tv , got lg deal from hotukdeals before and way better than others for me 100% recommended brand

Heads up this has been at this price for almost 2 weeks on AMZ. Down from 599.

This will almost definitely reduced further for BF so id would hold off

How are the speakers? They're rubbish on all these new 'Ultra' TVs.

Bought it 2 days ago with £100 credit back from Very. I'm aware of the RGBW 'cheating' technology used but tested some sample videos on YT, Netflix etc and I'm quite impressed. Sound is also better than expected.

Any good pointers for decent proper 4K tvs? Realistic to get one under £1k?

You've answered your own question as you've just stated they're rubbish in all these new TVs.

Thanks for posting.

But this in Q&A

Answer:
Yes. Be sure to have handcuffs and a truncheon at the ready

Same price at Richer Sounds, with 6 year guarantee. Voucher code may be possible too.

At 55" and typical viewing distances the pixels are so tiny it makes absolutely no difference. I wouldn't let those who don't like the idea of the technology put you off this model if it's otherwise attractive.

Sorry for my ignorance (not too clued up on the details of 4k tv) but from what I’ve read I thought RGBW was the way to go compared to standard RGB...I suspect I’ve missed something and it’d be great if you could enlighten me.

As I understand it RGBW used in these cheap sets means you're only really getting a resolution of 2880x1620 when viewing colour content. The 4th White pixel is only helping boost brightness and show/represent white colour objects on screen.

I'd much rather buy from RS then, thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for this - interesting read and frustrating that manufacturers make this crap and stick a 4k badge on it.

I've got the 55" Samsung M6100 Argos deal from a week ago sat waiting to unbox while I sort my cabling out. Anyone got any thoughts on whether better to swap for this one?

Thanks all

It's much cleverer than that, the subpixels will be used as needed so if you wanted to calculate the resolution you're seeing you'd have to do so on a frame by frame basis. 2880x2160 would be an absolute worst case scenario and virtually never seen in actual use.

Even your link says:
"To be fair, the slight loss in resolution detail on the RGBW display wasn’t visible in most real-world content except for fine text not looking pin-sharp from a 4K PC."

What's the point of arguing that it's not a 4K when it looks identical to it when used as a TV?

I bet half the people arguing against this are using Netflix or Sky Q HD instead of using Blu-Ray UHD despite the extra compression causing far, far more detail loss than the subpixel structure here.

I suppose it's a bit like comparing checkerboard rendering on the PS4 Pro to native 4K on PC.
