My sister bought the 55" version of this. Local dimming produces some really strange effects on scenes with a dark background and a person in the foreground. So strange she had to turn off local dimming.
Cant seem to find any proper reviews for this model.
Nanocell as in all material is made of cells of a nano metre scale?
Cinema sound from a flat tv? More physics.

Yes, that's what I saw. A person in the middle of the screen would make the dark background above them a dark grey as the backlighting would be on. To the left and right, the backlight would be off if it was dark and look black.

Well that's kinda what's is suppose to do lol.

Yes, as it's edge lit, it inherently turns on the back light for a strip of the screen. It just looks really odd when your watching it. If you want to avoid this, you have the options of turning local dimming off, (and having the entire screen look dark grey as opposed to black,) or paying more £ for a TV with FALD.

Yeah but a TV with good local dimming will look much better. Yeah I didn't want to pay the price for FALD. But the qled 60r has very good deep blacks.

Yes, all of these issues are really just LCD issues. Doesn't matter how much money you pay, or how many local dimming zones you have, you will never compete with OLED in this respect. My sister paid £800 for the 55" and knew straight away she should have paid the £300 more for OLED.

Qled would have been better
Masteryates31/10/2019 13:44

QLED is still an LCD, will all its problems.

Didn't say it wasn't. Oled is amazing but it also has its problems and double the price for a 55 inch.
I'm saying for the £800 mark the qled does a much better job with Black's etc than the LG

Thanks for the clarification Reuben. Can you also explain for the benefit of others, which QLED's are edge lit and which are FALD? I can't imagine all QLED's will do the same job.

The cheapest I've got is edge lit, that's the 60r. But like I said it's impressive for edge lit, and is a lot better than the nanocell. 70r onwards is FALD. but the 60r is 869 . Where as the 70r is 1100 . So big jump in price. 80r and 90r are similar but have better viewing angles etc .
I also got mine on AO and they gave £100 cashback for 60r

Thanks for the clarification Ruben. I'm seeing my sister in a few days so I will try and view the horrendous scene she was talking about. Would be very interested to see how it looks on other edge lit TV's.

Yeah will be interesting. Of course it's never going to be oled level but been happy with the Black's with no noticeable light bleed etc so far
