cracking deal, have some heat..

can this play .mkv files off of a USB stick?

Instore as well

Shame about lack of DLNA, but what do you expect for this price!

Anyone know if you can get iPlayer on it?

have some heat

I purchased this player from Asda. That deal came with Dark Knight, Clash of the Titans and Sherlock Holmes Blu Ray movies for £82

Cracking player, plays MKVs (no issues with big files >8gb), AVI, DivX formats too. Recognised by 2.5" hard drive in an enclosure no problem. Also connected various USB memory drives too.

Flawless playback, no jutters or choppiness.

Menu system is simple and easy to navigate through.

Although, the Blu Ray disk tray motor is rather audible when opening & closing. Other than that a BIG thumbs up from me.

Oh, not tested any of the network stuff on it but it is BD Live compliant. Will check LG site for firmware updates.

Plays DVDs and upscales to 1080p.

Cant seem to find any answer on the net re: iplayer

Can this play files from pc via the network? No where seems to mention this, tesco have the bd560 in store for 99 don't know what the difference between these 2 is

No, it cant.

Dioxins have the BD570 for £129 delivered with 5 free blurays.

The 570 has iplayer and can stream movies from a storage device over a network, wireless or wired.

I cant see why the BD550 doesn't have iplayer? It has every other netcast feature (youtube, yahoo widgets, vudu, netflix etc etc) In fact the hardware capabilities are identical to BD570 excluding wireless and homelink (DLNA)

Apologies in advance, im misinforming fellow hotukdealers. It appears there are 2 versions of the BD550, an American and British version.

The American version allows playback of netcast services (youtube, yahoo, facebook etc) but does not allow playback from USB or Ext HD

The British version has no netcast feature at all but does allow playback from USB and Ext HD. I can confirm I've updated to latest software version BD.784.00 and the netcast feature is not included.

I wonder if the player can updated with a BD570 or BD560 software version?

Have bought one of these today. Looks good so far.

Why does this site cost me so much money?!!

Picked up one of these yesterday from Blockbuster, very impressed so far and Robin Hood was surprisingly good too, according to their website this deal is only available for a further 5 days. Thanks OP
