I have just had an email from dixons with this blu-ray player included. after a bit of research it looks like one of the better players for streaming videos over my home network.

I am considering purchasing but can't decide if the Sony 370 is better, what does everyone else think?

good spot

Sony has great reviews and is less than £100.

Got mine from HMV turned up next day and some quidco as well.

Not really bothered about free films I would never watch

Struggling over this one. Not sure if to go for this one or the Sony BDP-S570 for £160. Any comments?

Depends whether you want a 3D Blu Ray Player, do you intend moving over to a 3D TV in a year or so time, if not then why spend extra on features you are not going to use for a couple of years at least, by which time Blu Ray Players will be even cheaper and all 3D capable, as well as other features we don't have a crystal ball to know about!

If these films don't float your boat, then you may as well go for the Sony 370 if 3D is not needed.

Had same deliberation before Christmas... went for the Sony 570 when it was £150 (don't have a 3D TV) - very pleased with it... plays all formats (including MKV), from flash drive, wireless from pc or burned to disc.

I bought a LG BD 570 from Dixons a few weeks ago. It's a great bit of kit, especially for network streaming.

The built-in Wi-Fi is a plus point over the Sony and it seems to play anything you send to it.(Including MKV files). Unfortunately not FLAC audio but I understand they are working on that one.

Also when you update the firmware BBC iPlayer is added.

The five free Blu-ray disks do have some value. When I bought my player the cheapest price was around £10 each.

I've not seen the picture quality of the Sony 370 so can't compare but it equals my Toshiba HD DVD EP30 player which is excellent.

Over all I'm very happy with mine.

On the Argos information page for this player it says it plays Region 1 and Region 2 DVDs - does this player play region1/2 out of the box?

The media streaming capability of this player (especially around mkvs) seems to put this well ahead of the Sony 570, and considerably cheaper. Seems a good deal to me (unless you need 3D), unless I am missing something.

No.

I'd rather get Sony S570, a little expensive but has iPlayer, 3D bluray support... so a little future proof...
