been looking for a new player,
currys have this one which i believe is exclusive to the dixons group, for £59.99, could be a misprice as you can get the player for £69.99 if you buy a tv, which isnt such a deal.
seems to play everything well. not many reviews around but looks a good price..

Use code "CUR2" to bring the price down too £56.99

Excellent player, got one when they were £69.99 a while back. Replaced my WD TV Live box, as it did pretty much everything it did plus more
Thanks, ordered. Seems to be the same spec as the 420, just a dixons exclusive.

yeh, i think the 520 is just wifi ready, so need a dongle, whereas the 420 only has ethernet port ..?
Does this have cinavia protection?

Does this have cinavia protection?

Yes it does have cinavia protection, if looking for a model without go for the BD range - BD550, 650 etc...(2011 models)

dont forget quidco - i thing its about 6% once tracked and confirmed. mine currently is 1.5%, but quidco tell me this should increase when order is confirmed
This has no ethernet connection, just the dongle.
Bear in mind this has Cinavia protection. I bought one a few weeks ago and I had to return it. A real shame because it does play every file format like the WD TV Live.
How does this Cinavia malarkey work?
What is Cinavia protection??
Heat added: I've got the version with just the ethernet port and really happy with it.

It DOES have an Ethernet port.

Cheers, but how is this likely to affect me? Can I download and stream older films (that I already own, of course)? What films can't I play? Is it only BD that this affects, or is it all media?

Any help is most appreciated

any movie download, which isn't completely legal may have an impossible to remove "marker" on it, which when played on a BR player that has Cinavia present will stop the audio playing after 10-15 minutes usually, or even stop playback altogether

isn't just bluray rips either, some dvds have the copy protection... even the common TS and CAM files can have copy protection as the marker is transmitted and recorded thru the cameras mic etc

it's a pain in the a**e basically for folk that don't have WDTV etc!

Thanks mate. So anything non copyright I'm fine with, and newer copyright stuff I could be restricted with (if it aint legit)?

I think it's going to either kill Blu ray sales or die itself as manufacturers fail to sell players with it implemented.

I have gone for the Pioneer bdp140 to play safe.

I bought this earlier in the week and found that a cheap generic wifi adapter I bought of amazon for 5 quid works with it.,everything ive played so far off a 2.5" hdd has worked great (1080p 3d mkv files included)
Maybe this cinavia protection only works if the files are full rips. When compressed maybe the watermark is corrupted and not registered by the hardware? I have not looked into it as does not affect me..and to confirm it does have the ethernet port.

Plenty of interested parties have gone into from what I have read, and at the moment the consensus seems to be that without very very sophisticated and destructive processing of the audio it stays whatever you do.

fwiw, I think the BP520 is exclusive to Dixons group in the UK according to LG website.
Bought one of these excellent machine. Best value 3d player I could find. Connected easily to WIFI using dongle gives access to LG apps etc.
