what about blu-ray? why do blu-ray players mostly have the ability to play DVD? what if I need a DVD player right now to play my existing DVD collection? why not wait until high-def net streaming set top boxes are here and their price is £70?

I am not a betting man.... but I might be tempted to make a waver on that one!
That is, unless "very soon" in your view is a lot longer than it is in mine.

For 2 quid extra, I would probably just pick it up in Argos, as it would be in your hands today, and no waiting in for deliveries!

Anyone know much about it's DivX performance? -one review in Argos mentions it doesn't like mpg files, and of course it has no USB or SD card slot :-(

No worthwhile difference between blu-ray and dvd in my opinion. By the time blu-rays come down to £5 each a new format will be in place, 3DOGrams or summat. Dvds have only been out for about 10 years.

i am sorry but you are wrong! i got HD tv and blue ray player and the difference is so huge! blue-ray players do play normal DVDs and usaully can upscale them to HD.
but i appriciate if you want something now or you do not want to spend a lot of money. i was only saying so that if someone has a DVD player already.
see this blue-ray for £85 hotukdeals.com/ite…ere

oh, I didn't realise bluray players would play standard DVDs, it had put me off buying one, that and the cost, as it's quite high and cant quite afford atm
