Anyone used one of these?

Mac OSX compatible too, very good deal.

I BOUGHT LG INTERNAL AS SECOND DVD DRIVE THEN WHENEVER TRIED PLAYING DVD MOVIES IT'S VERY SLOW or HANGING
THE OTHER DRIVE (DELL SYSTEM PHILIPS) IS OK
SO MAY BE FOR FEW EXTRA POUNDS BUY A BEST ONE

This must be a misprice?

I have never had any problems with LG drives

OS Required: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional , Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Microsoft Windows XP Professional

are you sure?

Ebuyer are notorius for not mentioning if they are mac compatible or not, if you look at the reviews on that product (on the ebuyer site), two are from Mac OSX users.

The first review says this...

Works great with OS X

Ugh USB DVD-RW?! I wouldn't burn with a USB 2 DVD-RW unless there was no alternative. Be warned guys those of you with not so new computers will not find it hard to to sustain a high burn speed, id suggest burning at 8x

Which is the suggested maximum speed for burning any dvd disc

dont bother with the light scribe, its garbage! for one the discs are more expensive. for two to burn the image (and basic images is all it can burn) takes 20 mins and thats at low res (30 for high res) and for three the discs only come in a brown/bronze colour so your image is always in black! it wont be able to do colours for a few years yet:w00t:

also add the time to actually burn your data to the disc aswell and your looking at a long task.

cd/dvd marker pen so much cheaper and way faster:thumbsup:

...best to buy a cr / dvd printer like the ace Casio 45 series - i got one new under £40 delivered via eBaY - standalone ( batteries or mains ) or usb linked...IF you REALLY need / want to print professionally - an array of fonts etc etc ...but...like fozey says ( and i do this as well as use the Casio ) use a marker pen ( if u got good handwriting etc ! )

I've got one of these. They are great. Works well with Linux, OS X and windows. You can download Linux Lightscribe software from LaCie that works with any lightscribe drive. The drive looks very smart and well made.

can someone entertain me here and explain what lightscribe is please?

shutdown

Instead of writing on the face of the disk, printing out on the face of the disk or printing a sticker to go over the face of the disk.... lightscribe will burn whatever you want on the face of the disk but definately not in different colours....

Its another way to label it....

Original Poster

It looks very professional but it takes a while to do, around 20 minutes and you have to have special disks. If your making disk backups then its a good way to have a good looking disk instead of just writing on the front of it.

Yep, I have one. Bought it for £30 from PC world about a year ago. It's very good. I use it every day and it's still going.

I bought a similar one of these about 6 months ago & it does the job very well.

Thinking about getting one to run with a pentium 3 laptop, however, only USB 1. Do you think my laptop would manage to interact with it to an acceptable level?

1st post. Great forum.

Ebuyer also sent me the GSA-E10N (ie the non lightscribe version). It was my first order from Ebuyer. I e-mailed them expecting a couple of pounds credit as compensation, which would have kept me happy. They weren't interested. An apology and that was it. Although it was a great price it will probaly be my last order from them. I'll stick with Amazon from now on.

Cheers!
