Just reduced. Was £599 only yesterday and at the moment the next cheapest price is in the region of around £529.00

You now have a dilemma. This one, which is a widely available model and therefore has price beating potential, or the Currys FH4U2VCN2 which is exclusive to them and also costs £399.

Cosmetically both models are very similar. Both models feature 9kg Load, A+++ Energy Rating, 1400rpm Spin, and a 5 Year warranty via redemption. Both models come with free standard delivery although which of the two will have the more convenient delivery options for you is area dependent.

Here are the differences:

The John Lewis version features Steam Technology, but this does not appear to be the same as LG's trademark TrueSteam, so unsure how these compare. Perhaps someone could shed some light on this. John Lewis also has the advantage of being slightly cheaper for disposal of your old washing machine at £15.

On the other hand, the Currys version features a 14 minute Turbowash function in lieu of any Steam Technology. Currys also has a discount code of £10 using LKA10R. There's also Topcashback and Quidco available with Currys, whereas there is no further discounting available with John Lewis. The Currys display panel is slightly more attractive in that it also features an individual display for the spin speed and temperature. Finally the Currys version is also available in silver, under model number LGFH4U2VCN4.

Both are sound machines with LG's legendary build quality, reliability, quietness and performance. You won't find any cheap plastic hinges here!

Very good question re steam vs Trusteam
I too am in same boat as was going to plum for the one in Costco for 399 - but is only a 8kg
if you expand the picture it says the JL machine is only 8.5kg

JL have the wrong image and Currys have the wrong image for their silver version. If you Google the model number of the JL washer, you will see the correct image, which is very similar.
Even LG website is confusing as it shows correct picture but then states 8.5kg, but with correct spin speed.

Samsung is nowhere near as good as the LG machines.
We stupidly replaced our old LG machine ( died after 8 years of daily use) with a Samsung early this year and it’s awful in comparison. This Deal is tempting just to get back to an LG again. Heat Added

This always happens when manufacturers produce multiple cosmetically similar models. You'll also notice that John Lewis stocks both the 8.5 KG and the 9 KG models. Both have identical specifications i.e. Steam Technology etc. and both are priced at £399. Why would you pay the same for a smaller load?

I only want to buy a **** washing machine lol
had a look googling that machine and the plot thickens
go into tech specs - says it offers truesteam and despite saying 9kg on picture - says 8.5kg load on specs

I think I have this machine (can’t remember the exact model number). Great machine.

Damn it I bought the Samsung 5456. It sounds like LG has a much better reputation and build quality so I would've stretched another £40 for this. Voted hot.

I thought you was fussy over paying 1p more at john lewis over the Samsung to ao.com?

Both have 5 years warranty and look identical.
All depends on your budget

But you haven't taking into account build quality, reliability and longevity. Surely these count for something too, don't they? You really do need to see both machines side by side in a shop and you will notice the difference in build quality straight away.

Judging by this thread LG has better build.

I wanted to do that price match to buy me another 28 days to purchase so I didn't need to buy yesterday and now I'm glad I waited

I'd like to think it came with Truesteam because at £399 it's a steal. Sadly, however, I think that's just wishful thinking.
Everyone I know who has had a Samsung has had issues. We've got a top end LG washer and drier and have been perfectly happy with them.

The good thing about LG washers is even their low end stuff is great too!

Unfortunately not at this price. You could opt for the Currys version in silver though, which is also worth considering.
Many thanks OP as we needed a new washing machine. I went for the Silver version at Currys

Good choice. Looks even better in the flesh!
So is this 8.5kg or 9kg ?!??
"Is there anything I should watch out for?

Yes - it takes its time to wash your clothes. The cottons and synthetics cycles are slow, even when considering the machine's spacious 9kg drum capacity. The cottons cycle took three hours 50 minutes in our tests, and the synthetics cycle took two hours 55 minutes. And water and energy use are both on the high side." - Which? review

This puts me off a bit but otherwise it's very well reviewed. (Currys model)

9KG with the wrong photo. The 8.5KG version on the John Lewis website also at £399 is a different model number.

Think it'd be worth you taking a look at these in person. I did at the two that Curry's sell and i'm fairly confident they are pretty much the same machine, same layout, very similar features, even the same control dial and number of buttons on the panel. Since they're both made in the same country, i'd guess they probably even come from the same factory.

Thanks.

Debating whether to get this from JL or get the Curry's version and take the £10 discount and the 5% TCB.....

Should be easy as Curry's works out cheaper but JLs customer service is better.....

Did you go into the UK White goods link at the top of thread? Internally, you'll find the two brands are worlds apart.

I would be inclined to take a closer look at the steam and turbowash features and decide which of the two is likely to be more useful for you.

Yes I agree but seeing as I've never bought a washing machine before I am a little lost. Just need something that washes clothes and is cheap to run I guess...

Yep, and generally no argument but it looks very much like they are sharing tooling for some models.

Nothing to source, agree that LG get a better write up most places and have a better track record, not saying it's definite either - just that it seems worth a look in person. To me, when i did, the SAMSUNG WW90J5456FW and LG FH4U2VCN2 seem to be almost identical. BTW, should have said before... HOT!

What are the running costs like on this compared to the Samsung Ecobubble range?
On the LG website it says this model has truesteam...
Taken the plunge but indirectly - I got a code off eBay saying 20 % off - so I put washing machine model into search - Curry’s/pc world came up
bagged it for £325

obviously applicable to any model - but happy as with £325 delivered

Can you still redeem the 5 year warranty through Curry's eBay site?

I searched and currys does not come up
I put model number in - my receipt says dsg retail which is currys / pc world / former Dixon’s group
Here's the link for all the LG and Samsung machines available from Currys/PC World outlet store on eBay. All items are brand new and mirror the normal website, but check individual warranty details to ensure you are definitely getting 5 years. You've only got until 6pm to redeem your 20% eBay code.

Even happier now that I cancelled the order from this morning and purchased via ebay for £324.99 - many thanks OP
