Not sure if this one is, but LG do some that are not as deep if you have a smaller kitchen or particular spot you want to shoehorn it into. My LG has been good and quiet.

I've never owned either, would you consider LG better than Samsung in washing machines?

Both are relatively new to the game so to speak so not sure what make to buy.

I have the lg and been good for 5 years and still going strong.Direct drive feature is brilliant and smooth. Would have another due to excellent build quality. As for samsung would consider one also.

Had an lg direct drive and the motor is brilliant. Paddles came lose inside the washer pulling the clothes and numerous other issues so I would buy a Samsung.

got LG one and had for 8 years. a few little problems but I took out repair plan so nothing to worry about. would defo buy another one.

have direct drive machine for over 10 years now. Still works fine.

ive got this one, love it, is amazing, definitely a safe bet

Recently bought the LG F14U1JBS2 still awaiting delivery but was tempted by the steam function (Either though it probably is a little gimmicky) made sure I chose something with 5 year warranty. The nice thing with LG is labour in included I read a few cheeky reviews of people getting 2 year warranty but then being billed £60 per hour

Both are not newcomers. Had my LG direct drive for almost 10 years, and they were not new 10 years ago.
In Asia LG and Samsung washing machines have been popular since the mid 90's.

Any good deals on washer dryers?

Never owned an LG one, but Samsungs white goods are very very good. We've owned Fridge/Freezers and washing machines from them and they've lasted much longer than Hoover/Hotpoint/Indesit.

I would definitely recommend getting a 5 year warranty. Our LG drum bearing went and it was just outside the 2 year warranty, it was scrapped.

We also had a couple of minor problems with it in the first 12 months requiring an engineer visit.

+1 for not Hotpoint, the older ones seem to last forever (got one in garage that's never had any work done to it) but our other one that's just over 5 years old is on it's 2nd set of (drum?) bearings. And now sounding like it needs yet another new set, last time the repair was about £100.

Is Direct Drive a lot better then?

No - Direct Drive is a gimmick. Read about it here.

Gutted bought mine end of November paid extra to get installed and old appliance removed which didn't happen and seems to be a problem with them as others i know had same experience - installed myself on Christmas Eve and does make a difference to my washing - great buy

USE CODE LKA20 AT CHECKOUT TO GET THE PRICE DOWN TO £329.99, PLUS GO THROUGH TOP CASH BACK TO GET TO GET 2.5% SO POTENTIAL TO GET FOR AROUND £320

Bought my first LG washer in 2003.

Still working strong up until July 2015, reluctantly had to give this away due to having a new kitchen refit which included appliances.

Subsequently bought 2x further LG washers in years 2005 & 2006 for rental property's - Still going strong.

LG is the best in my opinion

This is why we do surveys to get representative samples, and filter out the naive assumption that every machine produced by a particular manufacturer for ever will perform the same, people!

What is first manufacturer which coming to your head when talking about Direct Drive ? - yes, LG.
What you doing if you are afraid of loosing incoms and want to discredit this manufacturer ? - you are ordering article

Bought this last year for £360. Good washing machine - no complaints. The 20 min short cycle wash is perfect for the odd few items. Can also download wash cycles and diagnose faults via bluetooth.

The only downside i would say is that there's not alot of information on the different wash cycles and a large load could well take 2-3hours if you dont know what you're doing. There is a biit oif initial faffing around before you get use to it.

The article puts forward many convincing arguments. What part of it do you disagree with?

You can write as many convincing arguments as you want about every manufacturer if you really want...
The most convincing argument for me are people's voices(including my friends) who in vast majority are very happy with their LG washing machines
PS. There is no other 9kg washing machine with 5 years warranty on the market which comes close to this price... the choice is simple for me:)

Pibpob, Pavel has posted a 'good' deal - all things considered, and he's mistakenly taken your comments as an attack on his deal - which they most definitely are NOT.

Your posts are nothing more than informative - and well-sourced.

The 'in your face fact' that all users of modern washing machines are experiencing is that newer machines aren't lasting as long as older machines - and it's happening with all brands - most especially those using sealed drum technology.

Nevertheless, in a sea of 'built to fail' machines, this LG could reasonably be expected to be one of the 'better' ones(?).

Strange - no reviews on this model.

You're either accidentally or deliberately missing the point. It is nothing to do with a particular manufacturer or this machine; it's the principle of using a direct drive motor which was asked about. Check what you quoted. You have provided no rebuttal to the sound engineering explanations in that article, your only objection being a conspiracy theory about wanting to do down a particular manufacturer. Even if that is true, it doesn't make any difference to the points made in the article. So you have provided no evidence that direct drive is any more than a gimmick.

Just because I'm not with you doesn't mean I'm against you. I'm not saying these machines are any worse than any other, I'm saying that the direct drive motor is nothing more than a gimmick and won't mean that they perform any better or more reliably than any other machine. So choose them on the other parameters you have rightly pointed out, not the "direct drive".

Very little info anywhere.

You'd struggle to find a modern machine that isn't cold fill tbh.

Yes, and for good reason. Modern machines and detergents use lower temperatures and less water. A hot fill machine will have to err on the side of using more cold as it doesn't know the incoming temperatures. Drawing water from a tank results in wasted hot water in the pipes between the tank and the machine.

My machine on a 30 degree wash (everything except whites) runs its 2kW heater for about 5 minutes: < 3p of electricity.
Edited by: "pibpob" 7th Jan 2016

You can select up to 40 degrees for the short 20 min cycle.

On my old machine you preset the wash cycle - it tells you how long it takes and the load makes no difference.

On this machine there's no initial information on how long it takes until you start the cycle and the washing machine works out the load...
